Welcome to my listing. For sale is my Dad's 1957 Mk1 A55 Austin Cambridge. This car has only had 2 owners from new. The first owner bought the car brand new in 1957 and owned it for 29 years until he retired from driving, then my father took ownership of the car in 1986 and has loved, cared and maintained this car ever since. It is with deep regret that the time has finally come to part with this car as it has been part of our family for 35 years and Dad is now hanging up his driving gloves at nearly 80 years old. This car is completely original and has NOT been restored. There are just 55,000 miles on the clock. If you want one example of how this car has survived 64 years in this condition and the level of care it has received in order to preserve it to this very day, then here it is...... The original owner (Mr Emments) kept the car garaged the entire time he owned it and never once took it out in the rain. If it was raining however, then Mr Emments and his wife would get the bus to the shops instead of taking the car out in the rain! My father made a promise to Mr Emments that he too would look after the car like he had and has also kept the car garaged, covered and never driven (intentionally) in the rain. There are plenty more reasons/examples of how this car has survived so long in this condition, but I'll let my Dad tell you about those in person when the new owner comes to collect it. When my father bought the car, he was so proud of it, that he took it to multiple car shows around the UK for about a decade. During that time he won multiple car shows (best in class/category etc), which included 16 x First Place, 10 x Second Place and 10 x Third Place. Amongst the winning shows, this car won the best A55 Cambridge in the country at one National show and the British Leyland Heritage Trophy in the same year.In 1956, BMC gave their A50 a face lift and the A55 was born. Mechanically, the car never changed from the A50, but the major restyling feature was to the rear of the car. The original 'Cow Hips' were gone and replaced with a longer, more sleak looking tail end, providing a much larger boot than before. There were of course other changes, including a larger rear window and small modifications to the front styling. In 1957, the engine was also upgraded to the 1.5L B-Series straight 4, which provided an impressive 51 bhp for the time, which this car has.I have alot more information to write about this vehicle, but I have run out of time today and will complete the description during the next 24 hours, but if you have any questions in the meantime, then please do not hesitate to contact me. All viewings welcomed and encouraged as you will simply not find a better example of this car than this one. The car is located in Margate, Kent CT9 3HL. Thanks for looking.
