The Jaguar D-Type was a 190 mph technical masterpiece. designed. br/>built and prepared totally within Jaguar. and going on to achieve a
hat-trick of spectacular Le Mans victories in the 1950 s as well as
numerous victories in the other great classic endurance events.
This racing heritage has created a healthy demand for replicas of
these rare and exotic works sports-racers. But whereas the
production Jaguar D-Type was limited to using the 3. 4-litre version
of the XK engine. the biggest available at the time. replica
manufacturers and builders are afforded the luxury of choosing
either of the two larger XK sizes introduced subsequently the
'3. 8' or '4. 2' which. even when mildly tuned. are easily capable of
exceeding the original's 250 bhp maximum output.

Constructed to the highest standards in 1992. this replica of
Jaguar's legendary Le Mans-winning D-Type uses an LR Roadsters RAM
body and chassis kit and is powered by a 3. 8-litre XK engine
featuring triple Weber carburettors and coupled to a four-speed all
synchromesh manual with overdrive gearbox. Constructed around a
tubular-steel backbone space frame chassis. the RAM D-Type features
steel-braced fibreglass bodywork in the long nose. long fin. br/>passenger-carrying style. with full-width windscreen first seen on
the works Le Mans cars in 1955. while the wheels. lights and
instruments are said to be to correct specification. Based almost
exclusively on 1968 Jaguar running gear. unlike some of its rivals. br/>the RAM D-Type was described by Kit Cars & Specials magazine as
having 'undisputed mechanical integrity. and was reckoned 'one of
the most desirable replicas we have yet laid our hands on. ' The
factory claimed a performance. depending on engine tune. of 0-60 mph
in approximately 5. 9 seconds and a maximum speed in overdrive top
approaching 150 mph stunning figures even by today's standards.
Finished in British Racing Green with grey leather interior. this
authentic looking D-Type replica has covered only 5400 miles since
its construction and is supplied with a V 5 C registration document
which states that the car was registered as a RAM LM in 1992. a
history file containing old Mo T test certificates going back to
1998 and related invoices. The vendor tells us that this RAM D-Type
is in excellent condition throughout.
