Today we are offering an interesting. and certainly different. br/>example of the original 1959 version of the Mini. To preamble about
the Mini City is somewhat irrelevant as this 1981 model has been
extensively modified from its original specification. In fact. some
interesting engineering modifications have been incorporated to
facilitate this extraordinary conversion and inspection will
surprise even the most avid Mini enthusiast.

Based on an excellent body shell. the original engine has been
disposed of. In its place is fitted an Alfa Romeo 1750 cc 16 v fuel
injected flat four engine from an Alfa Romeo 145. The front wheel
drive no longer exists and drive is via a Dave Mack propshaft taken
to the rear. It is adjoined to a Volvo 340 transaxle unit which
results in a more even weight distribution over the four Ford
wheels. The front suspension includes Vauxhall Astra ball joints. br/>Ford Sierra hubs. Ford Escort wishbones and Escort shock absorbers
with coil over springs. At the rear are AVO coil over shock
absorbers and the front brakes are Ford Sierra callipers. discs and
pads with the rear being Volvo 340 drums and shoes. Brake fluid is
supplied by a Rover 200/300 master cylinder. To aide cooling of the
Alfa Romeo the engine radiator and twin electric cooling fans have
been fitted into the boot area. Piping connecting the engine and
radiator also has an electric water pump fitted to increase cooling
performance. In addition. the boot opens electronically. to assist
cooling. if required. in traffic. The interior is also modified.
The dashboard now boasts Alfa Romeo instruments whilst the seating
is provided by bucket seats fitted with headrests. The rear seating
area has been boxed in and has an access lid to the battery.
Externally. this highly modified Mini looks resplendent in bright
red with a black roof. To match the roof. extended black wheel
arches are fitted to allow for the now wider track than
original.

This Mini has an Mo T test certificate valid until June 2014 and
is taxed until the end of March 2014 so is ready to be used
straight away. This is surely something different for even the most
passionate Mini collector and especially when you consider the huge
amount of work to convert to its current incarnation.
