1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe 1958 Dragmaster Sponser NHRA SCTA for sale
Current customer rating: (440 votes ) based onYou are viewing a real piece of early drag racing history. This car was owned and driven by Mike Bamber of Escondido. In 1960 Mike would build and race the "Silver Dollar" a 41 Willys A/Gas Supercharged truck. The first engine in the Willys was the engine from this 40 coupe. It was a Latham supercharged small block Chevrolet. Mike ran consistently in the 10's with the Ford. a rare feat for a full-fendered. all steel 40 coupe. The car was Mike's high school car so when Dode Martin of Dragmaster asked Mike to match the other Dragmaster cars by painting it gold. Mike refused. they argued and settled on the gold stripe. Mike also didn't want to cut the original hood and rear fenders. so he took them off. found replacements to cut. The front bumper has the original front license plate that matches the rear plate and the small pink slip from the 60's. The original title remains registered to Mike Bamber. The car now has a Hilborn injected 283 punched out to 348. The car will start. run and race. This is the original paint from the day with no touch ups. If you are looking for a car to restore or build. this isn't it. The car is a true survivor and should remain as it is. I included a Sid Davis film from 1958 following the Dragmaster crew. including Mike Bamber. to Detroit for the Nationals. Mike would have been driving this car on the west coast for Dragmaster.
