Vehicle Details
This 1980 Diesel International Harvester Scout II four-wheel drive has received mechanical and drivability updates during the 15 years of ownership and has been consistently maintained and used as a recreational driver. This Scout is equipped with a Nissan-sourced SD33T inline 6 turbo diesel.Besides regular maintenance the following updates were completed: rear axle, including differential, drive line, rear & front brakes and emergency brake have been rebuilt, while new Warn locking wheel hubs, body mount bushings, all seals: windows, windshield, rear gate, doors and seal between top and body have been replaced.New marker lights and taillights have also been installed and the interior pan has spray on bed liner, front to back. Water pump, belts and radiator hoses have been replaced. This Scout II is offered with an IH Service Manual, original Owners Manual, original Maintenance/Warranty Manual and a clean Arkansas title. The original exterior Embassy Gray (8547) color is a repaint of fair quality with striping added when Unit was painted and the IH emblems on the front fenders were added. Some rust is starting to show on the bottom of both rear fenders right behind the door frame, see photos. This Scout shows 24K miles with true mileage unknown. The aluminum wheels are in good condition and includes a non-matching spare mounted inside the bed. Tires are 31” Hankook Dynamic MT and will be due for replacement soon. The interior has not been repainted and is all original. The front bucket seats, as shown in the photo gallery, will need to be reupholstered although the rear bench seat is in good repair. The upholstery fabric, Tartan Blue Nylon/Vinyl, is still available and contact information will be provided. The classic IH instrument panel gauges are mostly operational and lighting and switchgear are working. The fuel gauge was reading only 1/2 when full, but since has quit responding, the clock and radio are non operational and the AC unit is currently not cooling and requires R-12 freon.Manual transmission is an IH-427 (T19) 4-speed wide ratio with synchronized low gear along with the Dana 300 transfer case, all is shifting smoothly. The drivetrain also includes Dana 44 axels front & rear. The steel factory hardtop is in good condition without notable paint loss, and the headliner is intact with little or no sagging. The Nissan-sourced SD33T turbodiesel delivers 101 hp and 175 lb. ft. of torque in stock form. The engine smokes for 1-3 minutes on cold startups but not once warmed up. A plug-in water heater has been installed to help with winter startups. This engine will deliver 20-23 mpg in combined driving. This set-up easily handles speeds of 55-65 mph, and up to 75 mph is possible but less comfortable. The undercarriage shows typical surface corrosion to frame rails but overall in great condition.
