By the time the Jaguar XJ6 had been launched in Late 1968, Jaguars saloon car range had expanded to some four separate models. The introduction of the new car was a bid to rationalise the range and replace all with one single model. A tall order but the company got the finished product just right and the end result was universally praised as an absolute masterpiece that really requires no introduction as its reputation as one of the worlds finest saloons remains so to this day.

The S3 was significantly facelifted incorporating a subtle exterior redesign by Pininfarina. Changes included thicker and more incorporated rubber bumpers with decorative chrome only on the top edge, flush door handles, one-piece front door glass without a separate quarter light, a grille with only vertical vanes, reverse lights moved from the boot plinth to the larger rear light clusters, and a revised roofline with narrower door frames and increased glass area. The option of a sunroof and cruise control were also offered for the first time. The S3 ran right the way through until 1992 (despite its replacement the XJ40 being launched in 1986) and will always be regarded as extra special as the last Jaguar to have direct involvement from the companies founder Sir William Lyons. Total production from S1 through S3 was some 318,000 units which was a staggering amount for the Coventry based luxury car maker: this in itself shows how highly regarded the cars were and still are to this day.

Bradley James Classics are proud to be able to bring you an exceptionally special S3 4.2 litre example dating from 1984 finished in the wonderfully period Chestnut Brown with contrasting Beige leather interior. It is safe to say that when looking for a S3 to purchase you will not easily find again one like we are offering here today. The previous keeper loved the car so much that he spent an exorbitant amount in having the car fully restored complete with a photographic restoration dossier. Importantly the car remains an unwelded example (which is in itself a very rare thing for an S3!). The car was lucky enough to receive a full bare metal respray as well as a new engine (with receipt) and that engine has only covered 1500 miles subsequently. The car also benefits from having had the gearbox professionally refurbished and new fuel tanks were also fitted.

Bradley James has also just lavished a further £500 at a renowned Jaguar Specialist on her (including a new battery) by way of a small recommission since the restoration to ensure that this cat drives as new and just as Sir William Lyons Intended. She really is absolutely magnificent out on the road and her engine bursts instantly into life and purrs like a kitten. The fuel injected 4.2 XK fitted to these later S3's really made all the difference to the overall driving experience.

A343UUH really is in supreme condition all over with excellent chrome, super straight panels sporting a lovely gold pinstripe. She benefits from having a fully detailed engine bay and she is rock solid underneath having been also fully undersealed to preserve her for future generations to enjoy. Only a couple of tiny less than 5p sized bubbles are the sole blemishes to her stunning coachwork.

Inside she is gorgeous and is a lovely warm welcoming place to be to be cocooned from the hustle and bustle of life going on outwith her cabin. Her leather is in supreme condition and is wonderfully supple and smells just right. There is a small crack by her clock in the wood veneer but otherwise she is as the first owner back in 1984 would have enjoyed her. Her carpets are in lovely condition also.

In short this is an exceptional S3 and one surely not to be missed. Prices are year in year out steadily rising for Pre XJ40 era XJ6's and these later S3's are regarded to be the pick of the bunch after Sir John Egan took over quality control in 1982. The fuel injected 4.2 is also the engine of choice to avoid the unnecessary complication of the V12. It stands in simply breathtaking condition and has had an eye watering amount of money lavished upon her to bring her up to a standard that is surely comparable to how she would have rolled off the line at Browns Lane in 1984. In stock now - viewing is highly recommended and encouraged.
