This extremely rare Cutlass Supreme SX 455 Convertible was the recipient of an exacting. frame-off restoration in the mid 1990 s. and it has been immaculately kept & enthusiast-owned ever since. The SX was a two-year-only package (1970-71. option code Y 79) available exclusively on the Cutlass Supreme. and just 357 convertibles built in 1971. It was essentially a “sleeper” 442 intended to circumvent the high insurance premiums associated with the 442 model. The SX package supplied the L 32 455 cid big block V 8 (4 bbl. factory rated at 320 hp/460 lb-ft) plus mandatory heavy duty TH 400 transmission (i. e. . there's no such thing as a 4-speed SX). N 10 dual exhaust system. 442 cut-away rear bumper and special. yet subtle. SX badges. This particular car is further equipped with an extensive list of additional options that includes factory Air Conditioning. Rallye Pack with Tic-Toc Tach. Hurst dual gate “His & Her” shifter. Strato Bucket seats. deluxe seatbelts. power disc brakes. power steering. sports steering wheel. tilt steering column. AM/FM radio. 8 track cassette deck. dual Sport-Styled outside rear view mirrors with remote operation for the driver's side. the Convenience Light Group. and 14 x 7 Super Sport I (SSI) wheels. The car is upgraded with a correct W 30 Quadrajet carburetor and 442 dual snorkel air cleaner plus a set of proper color-matched SSIII wheels. When the engine was rebuilt. it was bored . 030 over and the compression was raised from the factory 8. 5:1 ratio to a more robust 10:1. plus the exhaust system was upgraded to an aluminized Mandrel bent system with Dynomax mufflers. Included with purchase are organized notebooks with complete receipts plus photos from the restoration. the original owner's manual in its original plastic bag. the original carburetor and single snorkel air cleaner. engine dyno sheets. extensive SX history and information. shop manuals. and the First Place award (with judging sheets) from the Oldsmobile Club of America Grand National Meet in 1995 shortly after the restoration was completed. The car was featured on the SX 455 Registry's home page in 2007. Cutlass Supreme SX 455 s are extremely rare and Convertible SXs are rarer still. This has to be one of the best on the market.
