Meyers Manx Beach Buggy 1966 Restored Classic in Sydney, NSW for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 747 votes
Up for auction is my prized 1966 Meyers Manx beach buggy. I have owned this buggy for nearly 10 years. It was fully restored in 2004 and has been driven very little since. The buggy is listed on its rego papers as a 1966. The floor pan is is 1958 link pin. The engine is a later model 1300 case that is listed on the rego papers and engineers certificate.
The car has had the following work done during the restoration:The body was fully restored and repainted  in 2 pac polyurethane metal flake red. This includes the glitter and clear top coats. The floor pans were replaced and  any rust removed and welded and painted GMH black. The dash was replaced with a modern Beach Buggy Australia dash with the lower switch/radio panel. The gauges were replaced with Porsche 914 which include speedo. Tachometer. and fuel gauge. The wheels were sandblasted and powder coated. The headlights were replaced. The windscreen was remade. The seats are re-apohlstered Gemini. The steering box was replaced.  The shocks replaced.  The brake lines replaced. The wiring replaced. Gene berg shifter. It has 1. 5 inch lowered front spindles. Manx fibreglass roof.
The engine was rebuilt with the following parts and specifications:
New 90. 5mm barrels and pistons for a 1776 engine displacement. New Scat counterweight crankshaft. New Engle 110 camshaft. New flycut big valve heads. New anodised pushrods tubes. New Empi deep sump. New Empi valve covers. Rebuilt vintage Holley bug spray carburettor with dual tract inlet manifold. 009 distributor. Full flow oil filter and high volume pump. Extractors. Various chrome fittings including the generator. fan housing and engine tin.
The car is very fast. It will lift its front wheels under acceleration. It was built with old school look and performance in mind. hence the Holley carb and moon caps. Craig steering wheel and metalflake paint etc. When it is registered I remove the rear bar to aid front end grip. but this only helps so much! This car has had full N. S. W registration.  I have not had it registered since the end of 2005 (when I bought a house!). It comes with a full engineers certificate that has been used for previous registrations as well as its 2005 rego papers.
For registration it needs:New link pins. I replaced the standard spindles with lowered after the car was out of rego. I had purchased these second hand. After installation I discovered the link pins and bushed needed replacing. A kit for this is about $70. I have not completely tightened the front tie rod bolts as I was going to remove them again to replace the link pins. It will need a wheel alignment. The old spindles will come with the car. A new right hand handbrake cable. This snapped when I was adjusting the rear torsion bar height. Rego may not even notice this but I would do it for safety. The right rear tyre has a nail in it and slowly goes down. This will need to be fixed. The rear tyres are in excellent condition. The front are older and a bit hard but have plenty of tread. The number plates do not come with the car as I will need to hand them in.

Some things that could be done:
The auto choke in the Holley needs a bit of adjustment as it keeps the motor at 3500rpm until it gets hot unless you manually drop the linkage. The Gene Berg shifter reverse lockout does not lockout. The headlights switch to high beam but then need to be turned off and on to restore to low beam. I have noticed on a recent start that the generator light is trying on. The generator is supplying power (measured with a multimeter) so I suspect the regulator points I are dirty. The fibreglass roof does not fit the current windscreen. When I had the windscreen remade I discovered the corners shape did not correspond the the roof. I have considered replacing the windscreen with a genuine replacement. These were not easily available when I restored the car. I also have a full soft top with wet weather side curtains but did not refit the attaching  press studs to the body after the restoration.
I have no reason not to believe this is a genuine Meyers Manx. It displays all of the evidence required by the Australian Manx club to show that this is the real deal. It has the hump in the bonnet under the badge. the vacuum hose running under the guard for the wiring loom. and the rear battery holder/spare wheel well. These cars are not easy to find. and are near impossible to build now for NSW rego due to the short wheelbase. Previous rego with engineers certificate make this car a collectors score.
I will miss this car greatly. I spent hundreds of hours rebuilding her and she is a good friend. Unfortunately I have no room for the car and no longer the time to work on it. Please email for more pics or to ask questions. The car can be inspected by arrangement on Saturday the 14th or Sunday the 15th and will need to be collected by Saturday the 21st. I am advertising the car elsewhere so the auction may be cancelled.
The car can be driven onto a trailer but cannot be test driven due to the link pin/tie rod end situation.
Please do not bid unless you have the finances to buy. A bank deposit will be required on the completion of the auction.
