1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1 for sale
Current customer rating: (388 votes ) based onFor your consideration is a genuine Sunbeam Tiger Mark 1. a highly collectible roadster combining classic British styling with American V8 muscle. similar to the Shelby Cobra. This example is the perfect sports car color combination of red over black. It has been upgraded to a more powerful 289 engine that runs excellent. The top loader 4-speed shifts smoothly and a Griffin radiator was added to help keep this Tiger running cool. The interior is in pretty good shape with a new burled walnut dash. All the proper gauges are intact. as is the original wood steering wheel. The dash pad has some cracks in it. The convertible top is in good condition. The body of the Tiger has an older inexpensive paint job with various cracks and chips. but still maintains a decent shine. The wheels are Superlites from England with good tires. The rear quarters were slightly flared at some point in its history. The previous owner also removed the wiring harness in preparation for a new harness to be installed. I have the new harness and it will be included in the sale. The underneath of the car is in good condition and still retains much of the original undercoating. This Sunbeam Tiger is listed in the registry and provides a great opportunity for someone looking to purchase one of these highly collectible cars at a reasonable price. The ignition and fuel pump are wired with a temporary circuit so it can be driven. Install the new harness and enjoy the Tiger as it is at local cruise nights and car shows. If you have specific questions. please contact me and I'll do my best to answer.
A brief history of the Sunbeam Tiger. Race car enthusiasts Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles were hired by Rootes Group to design a high performance model based on the Sunbeam Alpine roadster. The Carroll Shelby design team removed the Sunbeam Alpine 1. 7 liter four cylinder engine and replaced it with a small block 4. 2 liter Ford V-8. similar to the way he transformed the AC roadster into the Shelby Cobra. and production began in England in 1964. This low-budget. high performance sports car captured the hearts. and pocketbooks of enthusiasts. Although production ceased in 1967. with just over 7. 00 total made in total. the Sunbeam Tiger sports car is still sought today as one of Hemming's top 10 collectibles.
