1967 SUNBEAM TIGER, NO YOUR COMMON TIGER for sale
Current customer rating: (352 votes ) based onThis Tiger comes with many years of history but I can only state what I know is fact so please understand that I will do the best I can in describing the car as it is today.
This vehicle was in the same family for 19 years until the owner of 15 of them became very ill and gave the car to his niece. She had the car for 4 years but not being a collector she didn't drive it much and it sat in an airplane hanger until she sold it in October of 2013. At this point the buyer did some general maintenance and cleaning and sold the vehicle again with it ending up in our possession. We have inspected the car and I have personally driven it and can state for a fact the positives and negatives about the car and it runs. drives and stops perfectly.
Inspired by Shelbys shoehorning a V8 into a AC Ace the Roots company (Sunbeam) asked him to perform the same thing with there Alpine sports car. Once he perfected the conversion Roots renamed the potent V8 cars Sunbean Tigers. Sunbeam starting selling the Tiger version in 1965 and did so until 1967. This Tiger this is a MK1A based on the VIN. not a Mark I1. The 1A came with a 260 Ford V8. not the 289. Someone has replaced the original engine with a 289 along the way. Backed to a 4 speed and front disc brakes with drilled rotors it really is an exciting little car to drive.
While I don't know the entire history of the car it is a Sunbean Tiger owners association. certified car. Though the Certificate or Authenticity shows the car as White at the time of inspection in February 1998 it is currently Yellow with a redone leather bucket interior. I do have over $13. 00 in receipts from 2002 through 2009 in the owners name and an additional $1282. 00 from 2012 alone. This tells me that the lowers clearly maintained the car and enjoyed it. White there are no receipts for the repaint to Yellow it would seem this was done by its long time owner who gave it to his niece.
I will not note the unique things about this little rocket that are no stock. First off the car had the hood latch removed and metal exterior hood latched installed. You will see them in the pictures. they look great and work perfectly. Also the side windows were removed and the window slots filled and the interior cover pins installed. Speaking of this. the canvas interior cover looks great. covers the whole interior when needed and can be used when driving or not. Note the pictures do show 2 spots on the cover. just 2 spots of dirt that will be cleaned before delivery. We were told the 289 was upgraded. this I cannot confirm but the engine does sound much healthier then a stock 289 and seems to have an aftermarket cam possibly.
The tires while in great shape are not all matching. The front two match as do the rear two but they are all mounted to a perfect set of original Minilite wheels not cheap knockoffs. Please view all the pictures in detail. I have tried to post showing everything be it bad or good. Click on view all to pick and choose those you want to see first. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me with questions. If I don't answer please leave a message and I will respond as soon as I can. Vehicle is available for viewing in our warehouse daily upon request. ** For those asking here is some more info. The JAL number is 662194 and there is a CoA sticker with matching number 278 on the underside of the car. Its apparent now it is a Mark 1A with a later added 289 though still has the original valve covers showing the original engine number.
