LHD 1973 Datsun 240Z for Sale
 Historic Rally / Touring car
Imported from the US after a full restoration and being uprated to the current fast road/rally specification. this car has been totally rebuilt for spirited touring and is ideal for historic road rallies.
Showing no signs of previous welding or major works to the body  - as the original spot welds from the factory are still visible both on the sills and the wheel arches. This underpins the integrity and honesty of this fine example of a 70's classic sports car with no doubt.
The first Datsun 240Z began its lifespan back in 1966. when a new sports-car design was created by Fumio Yashida's design team at Nissan. It caught the attention of Yutaka Katayama. the first president of Nissan Motor Corporation U. S. A. - Katayama who expanded Nissan's focus from economy vehicles towards sportier vehicles. and is regarded by Z-car enthusiasts worldwide as the father of the Z-car.
"Mr. K" was responsible for Nissan's West Coast operations in the U. S. and he was convinced an affordable GT would sell big in America. Yashida's design was just the thing he was looking for.
But Katayama insisted on a closed car. not a convertible -- "easier to get into the market" -- and a two-seater only. not a GT. When the new Datsun sports car finally appeared in the autumn of 1969. there was no lack of mid-priced European competition; but the sports car would offer Porsche performance and Jaguar style at a fraction of the cost. At home it was called the Fairlady Z. but in the U. S and across europe it would be the Datsun 240Z.
Nissan had planned for 1. 00 cars per month for the U. S. but despite a late start. first-year sales missed 10. 00 by just three cars. The shipping quota was 2. 00 Zs per month by mid-1971. If Nissan could have built them fast enough. enthusiastic American Datsun dealers could have sold 4. 00 monthly.

This car comes with a fully documented re-build complete with photos and receipts of all work completed.
