A plethora of cars lined the streets to the pumps to fill their tanks up and the wallets of American oil companies.

Mercury was in the midst of all of this. with the legendary Cougar in its sixth year and despite sharing many of components. including newly standard front disc brakes. was considered more refined than its cousin. the Ford Mustang.
