OVERVIEW

 

The BAJA Bug is one of the most iconic versions of the VW Beetle. and one that truly “Americanizes” the car from Hawaii to Vermont.

 

This particular Baja started with a gorgeous 1967 Beetle that the prior owner had in his possession for 28 years. and was carefully turned into the dune running. road eating monster you see below.

 

With just over 900 miles since a complete mechanical and functional refurbishment. this former Magazine Featured Bug is ready for the next owner to drive. show. and enjoy it for decades to come!

 

 

DESCRIPTION

 

The first thing to grab your attention on this amazing BAJA BUG is the eye-catching paint job on it!

Still glossy. slick. and clean. the finish is a perfect fit for the cars body style. and makes it look fast sitting still!

 

A combination of Diamont BC/CC VW Jazz Blue Pearl (Color Code LW5Z)  and Ford Probe Vivid Canary Yellow (Color Code PP4S). the paint is bright. vibrant. and shines just as nicely under the glow of a streetlight as it does in the summer sun!

 

It has a few normal use marks on it like tiny stone chips. hair line scuffs. and a few spots that were touched up with correct color paint. but overall the car still looks amazing in person!

 

Take a look at the 100 extra-large photos below. and you can see that it really is a fantastic looking car that was well maintained by the prior owner for over 28 years!!!

 

There is on spot on the top center of the driver side rear fender where the fiberglass has about a ¼” split. and that is about the worst mark on the whole car! It could be easily repaired if it bothered you. but most people can’t even see it when the car is in front of them.

 

The steel body is in excellent condition. and the fiberglass tilt front end opens to reveal a finished and striped underside with Volkswagen badging. along with the clean firewall area with indoor/outdoor carpet and the new fuel cell.

 

A rare sun visor looks fantastic on the car. and the rear has a custom cut apron leaving the massive show-chromed motor on display.

 

The fully functional sunroof opens easily to let the air and sunlight into the cabin.

 

The chrome side protection bars. full front nerf bar. and complete chrome rear engine cage all show wonderfully. and will no doubt polish up to look even nicer when you get the car home and detail it.

 

Mirrors. door handles. brightwork. trim. and antenna all look fantastic. and function as they should.

 

Headlight trim rings look great and the lights shine brightly in both high and low beam settings.

 

Tail lamps look great on the car. and provide function parking and braking notification to snap those gawkers behind you back into reality!

 

The replica Hawaii front plate comes with the car. and is a nod to its time spent on the Island back in the 70’s.

 

VW center caps grace the American Racing styled 5-spoke aluminum Off-Road rims which look fantastic. and appear to have only very minor marks from normal use.

 

Tires are practically new Firestone Wilderness A/T raised white letter tires sized 27x8. 50R14LT. They are clean. damage and plug free. and have just over 900 miles on them.

 

Glass on the car is in exceptional condition. as are the new trim surrounds and window fuzzies. There are no chips or cracks evident. no fogging or laminate issues. and only light normal marks you would expect on a 40 plus year old car.

 

The glass is tinted to a very dark grade. so check your local and State laws.

 

The floor pan on the car is in absolutely phenomenal condition. and shows practically like new. with just a handful of marks from road debris. and NO rust. rot. or damage.

 

The chassis itself was just refreshed a little over 900 miles ago. and that included all new bearings. bushings. shocks. axles. axle seals (dust and moisture sealed). brakes. brake lines. and more.

 

It all shows clean. neat. and looks fantastic on the car.

 

The motor is a 1600cc engine that was completely disassembled and rebuilt from the block out with all new everything on the inside.

 

Practically every part that could be show chromed on the motor is. and it all looks fantastic as the 100 large photos below will show you.

 

Over $4. 00 was spent on the complete redo of the engine and transmission on this BAJA. and it show and drives that way!

 

The transmission is a FREEWAY FLYER 4-Speed manual that was rebuilt with the motor. and mated to a close ratio shifter with safety trigger and performance clutch and pressure plate from Kennedy.

 

A two-barrel carb was affixed and properly tuned to the car. and a custom chromed exhaust consisting of an upturned show-chromed OFF-ROAD header pipe sounds absolutely AWESOME on the car.

 

All seals and gaskets were replaced. a chromoly 4140 crankshaft installed. cylinder shims. studs. valves. rocker arms. pushrods and tubes. windage tray. and more. It was all gone through a little over 900 miles ago!

 

The car starts up with a turn of the key. idles super clean and steady. and is ready to go whenever you are.

 

Power is on demand. and the car pulls strongly through each of the 4-speeds with ease.

 

It steers super nice thanks to all the new components up front. and it steers so light and easy it seems like it has power steering!

 

Braking is solid and sure. with no excessive fade. modulation. pulling. or wander.

 

The car tracks straight. and is very comfortable cruising at highway speeds of scooting around town.

 

All of the functional and operational components on the car do what they should. and the vehicle exhibits no odd tendencies whatsoever.

 

The interior of the car is fully finished. and is a perfect spot to navigate from.

 

Dual bucket seats are clean. undamaged. and are super comfortable. They adjust fore and aft. as well as reclining. so you and your passenger can stay comfy on those long trips.

 

Carpeting throughout the car is clean. and has been installed over heat/soundproofing material as well.

 

Rear area is carpeted and finished out nicely. and has no damage or issues.

 

Same can be said for the custom made headliner. with built in dome light/map light unit. It shows one small repair mark on the passenger side top that isn’t anything major to worry about.

 

Door panels were custom fabricated with the matching design from the exterior. and show great. with excellent door latches and window rollers.

 

Dash is in clean and good condition. and has a Custom mad OAK WOOD E-Brake handle and door pulls.

 

Oil gauge. fuel gauge. Speedo/Trip. and massive Tachometer are all functional and appear correctly calibrated.

 

The AM/FM stereo cassette player does not work anymore. but I am sure whoever buys it will put the modern system they want in the car anyway so I left it alone.

 

Overall. this former VW TRENDS Magazine feature car is still in fantastic shape. and can be entered into any local or regional car show right now the way it sits.

 

When you take the time to detail it from front to back. it will be ready for NAY big show. and will add to the trophies it already has.

 

The car has won a ton of trophies. plaques. and ribbons over the years. and it comes with two of them:

 

It won 1st Place in the Air-cooled class at the BUG JAM. and also won 3rd place Overall at the massive Pep Boys show in Tampa Bay. FL.   

 

It also comes with the RC Car replica (non-functional). and a box of other replica die cast cars.

 

It fits everyone from our office manager who is 5'3" and 100 pounds all the way to my friend Jeff who is 6'3" and 270. so chances are it will fit YOU just fine!

 

It comes with one key. and a free and clear title as a 1967 Volkswagen.
