The Story:
Very nice original car that has traveled less than 3. 00 miles from new.
Car was purchased new in 1983 from the Consolidated International Auction in Columbus Ohio.
This car remained with this owner until his death earlier this year.
According to the family.
The car was always garaged and maintained with regular oil changes and filters
and was exercised on a frequent basis up and down the access road to his home and occasionally into town.
The owner would not allow anyone else to drive the car.
The surviving siblings tell me they never got to drive the car. I purchased the car Mid September this year with the intent on reselling it after going over the car and doing any needed repairs.
The Car:
1983 Model (August 1982 Build). 1983 cars are often considered the best cars.
They are built in 1982 by the remaining management staff in the DMC factory after layoffs of the factory
workforce.
By this time. all factory issued " recalls" had been implemented into production.
The Fit and Finish of these cars are the best of the production run.
You can see in the photos. especially the
overhead photo. that the body lines are very true and even.
The Doors close very precise without any bumping or rubbing of the door guides. I have not found a single dent or ding on the car. The hood does not have the "X" that is so common on many cars.
1983 cars also benefit from the epoxy coated frame also being undercoated.
This is why 1983 cars have black frames.
The frame is rust free and damage free. as should a car with such low miles. The front fascia is straight without the "eyebrows" so common with these cars. The Rear fascia needs fresh paint. Still looks good but it is starting to lift/bubble in a few spots.
I was going to repaint this but decided to leave that up to the new owner. Some like glossy paint. some like satin.
The interior is as NEW as a Delorean can be other than maybe a complete NOS interior.
The Dash. Binnacle. knee pads. side panels. console are free from any cracks. splits. blemishes.
The carpets / mats are as clean as a brand new car.
The headliners are not original and were replaced before my ownership.
They looks great and will last many years to come. The one thing on the interior that really shows the condition of this car is the leather seats. Probably the best original seat covers I have seen.
Not even the common rub spot on the driver side bolster.
The armrest extensions also are as new and show now signs of rubbing.
I have road tested the car extensively. Everything works. All of the dash lights. interior lights. exterior lights. engine bay light. and luggage compartment light works.
All power accessories (windows. locks. mirrors. antenna. wipers. washer. horn. defrost) work as they should.
The AC works great and is still R-12.
The Clutch is smooth and engages correctly with no leaks from the master or slave cylinder.
Cooling system fans work as designed. The engine is unmodified with original water pump. alternator.
The Bosch K-Jetronic Metering adjustment plug has not been drilled out.
I have checked the system and all pressures are within spec. frequency valve within spec. emissions ok.
The car starts. idles. runs as it should. The stereo works as it should. The speakers on the other hand. are very tired. typical of 35 year old paper speakers. but they still work.
LAMBDA counter is at 9% which is in line with the odometer mileage (2975/30000=0. 099).
