Spare wheel. Tool kit. Opening rear quarter windows. Rev counter. Sun visors
EXTERIOR
This lucky little Honda has been cherished its whole life. hardly turning a wheel in its 39 years. Its Z car origins are easily identified with its chrome badge on the rear quarter and the sweeping black stripes down its flanks. The period Tangerine paintwork is in true show condition with no chips. scratches or signs of corrosion.
Thanks to spending a life indoors. the body is also free from any sun damage so the paint still retains its deep shine. the chrome work is unmarked and all the rubber seals remain in fine condition. Looking under the car on a ramp. the excellent original condition continues with a clean floor pan and everything still protected with waxoyl.
There is a very neat storage compartment that opens at the rear below the number plate that stores an unused spare wheel and a small tool kit and jack.
INTERIOR
Considering the cars micro size. the interior is still a lovely airy place to be. There is plenty of head and leg room for the driver and a decent driving position with nicely aligned pedals and steering wheel. The dash is well laid out with clearly positioned instruments and a slot for a radio if the owner desires. Nice additions on such a small car include the opening rear quarter windows and the very cool roof console housing the interior light and a handy map light.
The remarkable 'as new' condition continues inside with the original cellophane still covering the door cards. like unwrapped presents from 1974. The rest of the interior has also been preserved in perfect condition with no evidence of wear or discolouration to any of the vinyl trim or black carpets. Surprisingly for such a small car there is quite a reasonable sized boot with enough room for a couple of overnight bags or the weekly shop!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Very little work has been required from the little 599cc engine in the last 39 years having only covered a mere 683 miles but everything remains in fine working order. With a little choke the car fires into life at the first turn of the key and provides plenty of performance to hustle around town and down the country lanes.
Earlier this year the car was brought out of storage and had a thorough service and check over by ‘NBA Sports Cars' to make sure everything is working like clockwork. The car has never been MOT'd for road use but should sail straight through the test if required by the new owner.
WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The little 10 inch steel wheels are in perfect condition and secured in place with some sparkling chrome nuts. they are all shod in a matching set of 145 R10 Diplomat boots that as you would expect still have their full amount of tread. The brakes have been fully tested and have no problem washing off speed.
HISTORY FILE
This little Z car has spent its life as a Museum and collectors piece so has had minimal road use. It was first purchased in 1974 by ‘Smith Bros Motors LTD' who were the Honda main agent in Ireland. they used the car as a promotional show piece until it was moved to the Honda Museum above ‘Elite Cars of Tooting' where it was displayed with other important Honda's showing the history of the manufacturer.
In 2005. the accountants took over and the Museum was converted into an additional sales space. so the car has been looked after by a Honda collector who has had the car stored in an air chamber ever since. The registration document still shows the original Honda dealer as the only registered keeper.
The history file contains the original owners manual and the service book. which shows the pre-delivery service at 50 miles in 1974. There are also a couple of the original Honda sales brochures and quite a few original Magazine articles and reviews from when the car was new.
Micro cars are on the up and becoming increasingly collectible with prices set to rise. A recent auction saw a collection of cars selling and some of them exceeding the estimates by 4 times!
This example is a very rare find indeed. a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Honda history!
