1981 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit Trans Am for sale
Current customer rating:
Up for Auction is my 1981 Pontiac 4. 9 Turbo Trans Am Bandit SE . This is one of 3050 Y 84 T Top Black / Gold Bandit SE Trans Ams built in 1981 . Even though Pontiac didn't produce a RPO for the Smokey and Bandit SE the Y 84 was nicknamed the Bandit SE because it was a replica to the Black/Gold TTop Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit II Movie . 1981 was the first and only year that Burt Renolds advertised for Pontiac with a Y 84 Trans Am and was also the last year for a Pontiac V/8. Another interesting factoid is 1981 was also the first and only year that NADA included a Bandit Special Edition.
This is a true survivor numbers matching car with the factory invoice from 1981 delivered to Vinita Okla. Other than the new recent ( few months ago ) exterior paint this is an original unmolested 83 K miles Oklahoma Car . The interior still looks very nice even the dash is in perfect condition . I bought the car April 2011 and for the first 3 summers I drove it to many car shows and cruises. It was a 20 footer . blaming years of buffing the paint was thinning to the point of seeing factory primer and the decals were fading and cracking . To me it's important to show and tell the condition that this car was in before repainting it. The photo with the decals still on it were at a car show during the summer of 2013 before I started the tear down . it still showed very well . The body was and is 100 % rust free and other than a few door dings and a little dent on the right side 1/4 panel (photo) it needed very little body filler work . Not wanting sloppy paint build up on edges and overspray I took off every removable part from the body that would hinder a clean paint job including all the spoilers .
I fixed the minor dings and dents . sanded off the old decals and stripes except for the hood I had to strip it to get the bird gone (photo) . I primed and blocked the body a few times. I put two coats of black base on it . block sanded and repeated one more time . After I was sure it was laser straight I had a professional shop do the final paint and clear (photo) . I had them paint all the spoilers correctly with the flex additive and I put the car back together replacing new all the spoiler seals. NOS power antenna . both new GM outer window sweep moldings and new GM all the gaskets for the door handles . lock cylinders and mirrors .
I then took it back and they did the final Cut and buff to the mirror like finish you can clearly see . While I had the front and back glass moldings off I stripped and repainted them semi flat black as well as the old school original 3 piece back window louvers I painted them semi gloss back . yes there is a difference you can see a nice contrast between body. moldings and louvers .
I went into a detailed description to show that this was not your simple repaint to flip a car. this was to going to be my car for many more years of car shows and cruises so I took the time to make sure it was done right . was clean and not look like a repaint. The extreme high gloss clear and no decals is the only way you can tell its not the original paint. The original paint is still on the underside of trunk and on the doors and fenders jambs . the identification decals on left door are the untouched originals .
Since I started this project last year I found and bought my true dream car a 1968 GTO Convertible so even though I never planned on selling my Bandit TA I now need to or put in storage and wait till Spring to put the decals back on it and still end up selling . Even without the decals this is the best of both scenarios it's an all original . no rust ever clean Oklahoma Car that's also been upgraded with a more durable modern day base/clear urethane paint that is so new there is not a single stone /road chip on any part of this car including any of the spoilers. It's a blank canvas if someone even wanted to custom paint the Birds and Stripes on it . Other things I did within the first year of buying this was a complete front and rear disc brakes overhaul including replacing the master cylinder . converted the AC to 134 a Freeon. replaced the exhaust with dual Flowmasters Mufflers that have a nice little rumble. tinted the TTops black and replaced front / rear speakers . New this year I restored the Turbo wheels and replaced the tires with P 225/70/15 Hankook Performance tires . This car is also nicely loaded with WS 6 Performance . Four wheel power disc brakes . PW. PL. Delay Wipers Cruise . Tilt. AM/FM Cassette . Power Antenna . Power Radio Amp Boost . RR defrost . RR trunk release and RR trunk light . Car has 83. 50 documented miles on it . runs and drives very good . Car still has the original spare . complete jack and both TTop bags . also has some old school TTop locks popular back in the day.
Black is the most unforgiving color. it shows every flaw and imperfection . ( I ain't scared lol ) I took close up photos of each panel to show the clean straight body and mirror like finish . I have the mouse over enlargement feature in my ad. use it and see for yourself . This car will not disappoint . even without the decals this car turns heads and gets thumbs up everywhere I have taken it . One of the biggest questions I get is " what motor is that ? " you would be surprised how little people know about the 2 nd Gen Turbo Charged Trans Am.
Opening up auction with a reasonable starting price close to reserve to weed out bidders who have no intention on buying . bid to win . don't let this piece of history get away . not a lot of original Turbo T/A . still around . they don't come along this nice to often . Car is sold as is with no implied warranty . . Located in Tulsa Okla inspection is welcomed and preferred . Find a fellow Facebook Group friend and have them check it out for you .
Buyer must make a 500. 00 Pay Pal non refundable deposit within 24 hours of close of auction and full payment within 7 days of close of auction . Prefer local pick up . you could fly in and drive home to anywhere with this car . Buyer responsible for any and all shipping arrangements and charges . Feel free to ask for any more info or photos . I have a lot more of each but this ad had to stop somewhere lol. Good Luck on bidding .
