This is my 3 rd Vanagon. being a VW man half my life. This 1987 Westy was purchased in 1999 w/ 68 K on the clock. His name is Enrique and is part of our family. He's been to Canada and back and all over the western United States w/out leaving us stranded even once. I've personally maintained and lovingly worked on him myself. I have many spare parts that are included.
It has come time for him to go to a new home as the family is outgrowing him. So he's up for sale and will probably be the most regrettable sale of all my VW's but we don't live forever.
Ok. now to the details.
MOTOR:
It is a stock 2. 1 liter MV engine. It is original and has not been cracked. New water pump. ignition items and K&N Air filter.
If you are a Vanagon lover you know about the head leak issue. There has been some weeping on both heads that started about 3 years ago. I have used the Subaru coolant conditioner treatment on the last 2 coolant change outs and stopped any further issues. There has been a few weeps but the coolant has been stabilized and would drive it cross country without hesitation. I have used phosphate free coolant and distilled water since the day I bought him so the cooling system is in good order. Motor idles well and passes smog and burns no oil.
I have included a stock 2. 1 L longblock w/ new bearings. re-ringed top end and rebuilt heads. I have kept the extra motor as a standby and planned on installing it. but never needed to. It is included with the purchase of the vehicle.
BODY:
It is the original paint (white). It needs a good detail job but the paint is in good condition for the age. There are small paint chips on the front and the body. A few small dings but no major damage and no rust. I have undercoated multiple areas and the under pan area is clean. The body is in very good condition.
SUSPENSION:
I have maintained to CV joints and replaced the passenger side inner and outer joints and boots. It will need CV joint replacements down the road but the drive train is solid. The front shocks are fine and still dampening well.
INTERIOR/CAMPER:
Full Westfalia Camper package. Stove. sink and domestic refrigerator. Stove works and fridge works on AC/DC and LP. Sink pump works and no leaks. Pop up works (grey in color) No tears and ready for camping.
AIR CONDITIONING (the scoop):
If you know Vanagons. you know that the AC system is just downright problematic. I have spent thousands of dollars fixing the AC system. converting it to R 134. replacing dryer. compressor and sealing the system. Also. rewiring relays and other items to keep the system working. I still have to recharge the system to get through the summer each year. So the AC system works but needs to be serviced again. I am just done with it and going on with life without the AC headache.
I know what Vanagons are worth and this is a fair priced for this type vehicle. Please. no trades (unless you have a split window T 2 Crew Cab) and serious buyers ONLY. Clean title.
Thanks for looking.
