You are about to bid on my 1975 BMW 2002.

The car is my pride and joy and I kid not when I say that it has taken me many months to accept the fact that I have to sell it. I love it. it's bloody great. I am forced to sell it as I have recently bought a house which requires complete renovation and I am losing the use of the garage in which the car normally lives. Although the money will come in handy. it's the fact that the car will no longer be stored properly which has really made me sell.

The Summary

Iconic 1975 BMW 2002 four speed manual in metallic blue with cream vinyl and cloth interior. Legendary 1990cc BMW straight four carburetted M10 engine. Runs on unleaded petrol. 78. 80 recorded miles at the time of listing. This will obviously increase a bit before the auction end. I have a very comprehensive history file to prove mileage and maintenance. The car is in great overall condition cosmetically. mechanically and structurally. It starts first time. every time and drives beautifully. The car is MOT'd until October 30th 2013. It passed its last MOT with no advisories. The road fund licence expires at the end of the month but I'm happy to extend this before the sale. at the cost of the buyer. Cheap to insure on a classic car policy. I currently pay £120 fully comp for a year with a 5000 mile limit. V5 present and registered in my name. Owned by BMW enthusiast and trusted ebayer – please check my feedback. 99p start and No Reserve!

The Detail

The car was manufactured by BMW in Munich on the 14th November 1974 and delivered to England on February 17th 1975. I bought the car 2 years ago as my second classic BMW. I also own a ‘69 2000 saloon which may too be offered for sale soon.

I bought the car from a really nice chap in Leeds who had overseen the restoration of the car a few years previously. The work (and a lot of the cars history) is documented in a large bundle of paperwork that will come with the car when sold. The seller had acquired the car from his brother and the BMW had been in the same family from new. I am the 7th owner from new. with all of the previous change in registered owners being to and from members of the same family.

The car has been refinished some years back in its original colour of Arctisblau (Arctic Blue). This metallic colour (paint code 045 for the nerds) is pretty rare on a 2002 as it was only introduced to the BMW range for the last two years of the model's manufacture.

The Good Bits:

The car is solid. Although there is some minor surface rust in the usual places (detailed below) the body in very sound indeed with no major rust in the floor. boot well. arches and suspension mounts. The paintwork is very good and looks superb when washed and waxed. both at a distance and on detailed inspection.

Mechanically it is bombproof. The car starts first time every time. even in the cold. A little choke is required to get her going and then she idles smoothly and pulls like a train through all gears.

The car is a four speed manual. The transmission is in great shape. having had a new clutch slave cylinder in November of last year.

The brakes are fantastic and stop as they should do.

The electrics behave impeccably. The car has front spotlights which I think really improve the look of these later plastic grilled models. There is a fully functioning (slightly later 1980s) Blaupunkt FM radio cassette linked to four speakers. I have just fitted a new battery.

The car has the original factory-fitted green tinted glass. It's another subtle difference that really helps the appearance of the car. All the seals are in good nick and keep the car dry and warm and make driving at speed a pleasure.

The interior is in terrific condition. The door cards are finished in grey/cream vinyl with matching seat trims with cloth centres. The grey carpet and headlining are also in tip top condition. There's a tiny hole in the rear bench seat of you want to be really picky.

For those of you who know about these cars. the car has two really big advantages - the heater works really well and even the clock functions and keeps good time too! Although it doesn't sound like a big deal. an efficient heater makes the car useable all year round and prevents it getting steamed up on cold winter and summer mornings.

Finally and it's obviously a little narcissistic but the car gets attention wherever it goes. It looks great and always gets smiles. waves and comments from pedestrians and other drivers. These cars are pretty rare on the road these days. despite the fact that everyone you talk to has apparently owned one at some point! Driving this car will make your spring and summer this year and every year thereafter.

The Not-So-Good-Bits:

If you think you can buy a show condition BMW 2002 for less than £8-£10k these days then you're very much mistaken. This car is not immaculate so please read and understand the following very carefully before you bid. I am happy to answer any questions and supply more photos on request. The detail below is probably me being picky but here goes…

The chrome finish on the rear bumper is now pretty badly corroded. It's only really the centre section that needs replacing or re-finishing. '02 Bumpers are pretty hard to find now and so getting it re-chromed would be the sensible option. If you're local then I'm happy to recommend a firm who will do a great job.

The car does have a few scratches but none that affect the stability of the paint finish. Overall it looks great.

There is some surface rust inside the two rear arches and the NSF arch; this is surface rust and not rot. The rust is purely superficial and can be removed. treated and re-finished easily. I'm happy to do this but thought I would leave them so the new buyer can see them and realise how good the rest of the car is!

There is a small dint in the external metal of the OSF arch. It can be seen in the photos of you look closely. It is hardly noticeable but on close inspection. it does affect the curve of the arch and some paint has been lost. causing a bit of light rust over the surface which clears instantly with a light sand. This is a quick and easy fix for a body shop if you want it looking perfect.

The driver's side door has a very slight bend on the metal where the door opened without a door break and bent the steel of the door against the front wing. No damage has been caused to the metal or the paint finish and can be rectified easily. Again it's hardly noticeable (see if you can even spot it in the photos).

I have mentioned all of the above as I am honest seller and I want a buyer to collect the car knowing what they are getting. Every buyer and seller has a different view on things and so the easiest way to answer any questions you may have is to come and have a look at the car.

I welcome any viewings and any inspection. The car is located in Sheffield S11. near the South Yorkshire border with North Derbyshire. I work away three days a week but can accommodate viewings almost any time to suit you. I have listed the car on a 10 day auction to give plenty of opportunity for people to view and test drive.

The Small Print

I have listed this car to sell it and I do not want to be messed around.

The buyer must make contact within 24 hours of the auction ending.

A £250 deposit must be paid via paypal within 48 hours of the auction end.

The car must be collected within 3 days of the auction end. If this is going to be a problem. contact me before you bid and we may be able to work something out.

I will not deliver unless previously agreed and a larger. non-returnable deposit is paid.

Any bidders with less than 10 positive feedback will have their bids cancelled unless they have contacted me prior.

I always intend to let auctions run but I doo have private interest in the sale of the car and so I reserve the right to end the auction early.

Good luck - you are about to buy a great car!
