Launched in 1937. the first BMW 327 was a cabriolet model. followed in 1938 by a fixed-head coupé version. This was shorter and lower than its saloon counterpart but shared the famous BMW twin 'sausage' (more recently reduced to a twin 'kidney') grille and a streamlined form representative of the more progressive designs of the 1930s. With its great style. comfort and genuine four-passenger capacity rendered most other middle-price sports cars crudely old-fashioned. Mechanically. the car utilised the innovative hydraulic brake control. gearbox. clutch and suspension system first seen on the 326. Also shared was the 1. 71cc straight six power plant. although the 327 boasted a modest power increase to 55bhp. The advertised top speed of 78mph/125kph constituted a useful performance advantage for the shorter car. The BMW 327 was also available with the BMW 328 engine in 1937 to 1941 as the confusingly named 327/28. This BMW 327 is a late left-hand drive example manufactured in 1941. it is not a factory 327/28 but a standard 327 albeit with the 328 engine fitted very early on in its life. This interesting and practical pre-war sports tourer is presented in the most elegant two tone black/cream paintwork and tan interior. was part of a large private Swedish collection and an excellent and thoroughly usable all-round. late pre-war German 2+2 drop-head touring car. This example has been running with the more desirable straight six 328 engine since the mid/late 1950's and has spent many years prior to its present ownership in a single owner collection in Sweden. The car is accompanied by a comprehensive history file. A wonderful opportunity to acquire a great touring sports car from the pre war era. and being one of the most elegant of cars suitable for showing or driving at the most prestigious events for which it is eligible. We are in the process of registering the car in the UK and then it can be registered anywhere easily. BMW 327's are a great car and this one. utilising the famous 328 engine makes it very quick and much more desirable. The car is in a superb. ready to use condition. runs on 328 wheels and would form the centrepiece to any pre war/BMW collection.
