Want something different.
every man and his dog has had a redblock
How about a
DIESEL Volvo 940 SE 2. 4TD. Intercooler ( Auto )
Volkswagen D24TIC Engine from Factory
Previously sold to a man of the cloth but he found that he couldn't get it into his garage
That's what you get when you have a new property nowadays. A small garage
So needless to say I bought it back

The Volvo D24TIC is a 2. 4-litre inline-six-cylinder  single overhead camshaft  diesel engine. br> which was formerly manufactured by Volkswagen Group from August 1986 to December 1995.
The engine is constructed in an identical manner to the Volkswagen D24T engine. and the earlier Volkswagen D24 engine - but includes an intercooler to aid its turbocharger in order to improve overall performance.

Anyway getting back to the Car. It's fine underneath. still showing factory underseal

I did speak to the garage that last sold the car and they remembered it

(it was one of the first cars they sold with the new style V5 and that was back in '05)

they said from memory it went to an elderly chap that didn't do many miles in a year.

That would tie up with the low mileage over the last 10 years

He said there weren't many of the Diesels about in the day but if they were serviced regularly and the oil and filter changed on time  they would go on for years  and probably do half a million miles or more.

Interesting. Sounds like it's a straight. honest old bus.

This is the 3rd and last Volvo 940 that I have.
previously sold one 940 2. 3 LPT and one 2. 4 TD
Don't miss this 940 D24tic. Very rare

Just been serviced. new discs all round as well as new brake pads. the cam belt and the injector pump belts look to be in good condition ( can still see the part numbers on them ). But knowing that people like to buy knowing that the belts have been changed ( I know I would ) I have replaced the Cam Belt. the injector pump belt. the lower Idler Pulley. the cam belt tensioner pulley and the water pump with Brand New items so it should be good for at least another 5 years or 50. 00 miles.
The Automatic fluid has been changed. not just drained the sump and topped it up again but completely flushed through with some 15Ltrs of fresh fluid
A set of New Tyres have also been fitted
Also included  in the sale are new Top and Bottom Radiator hoses. nothing wrong with the ones that are on it but I just like to have a spare set.   They are getting a bit hard to find nowadays but available from  factory in Stockholm.
Sorry no history with this car but I am always more interested in how it is now rather than how it was 10 years ago.

I would say just the normal service items have been replaced when needed on this car. OIL. Filters. Brakes. etc.
When I looked at the air filter in order to replace it. it was like new. like it had just been replaced the day before I checked it. You get the picture. the new filter which I was intending to fit is still in it's box and will go with the car along with a spare New Oil Filter. . You can tell a lot about a car when you see that the oil. the filters  etc have been changed  and when you dip the dip stick  you think there is no oil in the engine because it's that clean. (see last picture) that's the oil after 2 weeks . Now how many cars  do you find oil that's that clean.   It's a nice reassuring sight. Oh! and it doesn't run on Fully synthetic oil. it runs on 10 / 40 semi Synthetic.

The speedo is reading 148. 78 which over it's lifetime is 7056 miles a year on average. nothing for one of these engines. I have a friend in America who has one that has done 490. 00 and it's still going strong. Would he sell it? No he wouldn't.
The headlining is good and NOT sagging like some I have seen
The Seats both back and front are all OK with NO marks . holes  or cigarette burns on them
The rear load area of the car is also nice and clean another indication that this car has not had a hard life.

Here are the Extracts from MOT's. below!. You will see that in the last 10 years it hasn't done a lot! and judging by the general condition I would say it has been fairly well looked after and regularly serviced as the injector pump still has the marker paint on it and it still has the seal intact so no one has been in there and messed with it. The car does NOT have a tow bar fitted and never has had one so It's not been used as a tow horse.

The car itself  does have the odd mark here and there commensurate with its age but nothing that detracts from the look of the car. the usual top of the door cards are wrinkled but unless the car has spent its life in a garage they all tend to wrinkle. I do have a spare passenger side door card that is in perfect condition that will go with the car and you can change it if you want to. This car has a glass electric sun roof but the switch doesn't do anything. It doesn't have the usual click when you push the switch so I'm guessing that the switch is the problem.   It has never bothered me and as I'm not a lover of sun roofs. The fact that it is closed and does not leak was enough for me. There is an internal cover or blind that you can pull over the glass so no light shines in. The fuses have all been checked and none were found to have blown.

Fuel wise it will return 38 MPG around town without trying. more on a long run
Obviously if you drive it like an idiot then the consumption will be less.
What else can I say except when was the last time you saw one on the road.
These are becoming very collectable nowadays especially as there are very little electronics on these cars so not much to go wrong.
No sensors watching sensors if you know what I mean. they are just a lovely drive around town and can hold their own on the motorway sitting at the legal limit ( or a bit more if you take it on the Autobahn ) all day long if you wished with the bonus of good fuel consumption.
All the Dash lights are working correctly and they all go out as they should when the engine is fired up. you will see that in the pictures.
The engine fires up on the first turn of the key
It's a 4 speed Auto with a lock-up torque converter . that cuts in at about 55 and cuts out again as the car slows down below 55.

Priced at £3550 / it sound like a lot of money I hear you say. but where do you find another. they are just not around every street corner  and chances are you'll need to spend very little on it over the next few years. OK The 940 Volvo's  are a bit dated. be it petrol or diesel and are not everybody's cup of tea but I'd prefer to drive something that's reliable rather than something that will all of a sudden go into limp mode.
Isn't it nice just to drive something different
They are cheap to run. very rarely break down. and easy to service unlike the modern cars that are around today.
These were the top of the range cars in their day. and it's really Rolls Royce motoring for Fiat Panda money.
I have taken the EGR valve off and the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the air intake. I don't see the point in recycling dirty air back through the air intake. it might as well go in one direction through the exhaust and out the other end. makes for a cleaner engine. The EGR valve and pipe will come with the car should you want to put it back on.

Sorry the price is the price is the price.
I'm not in a rush to sell it but everything has it's price
It's a good solid car with no issues to speak of.
Find me another as good. You won't!
Thanks for Looking.
