The VW Beetle is a true icon of 20 th Century motoring and
occupies a significant position in the minds and hearts of drivers
and enthusiasts across the globe. The Beetle is the longest-running
and most-manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in
the world with over 21 million cars produced between 1938 and 2003.
The '1300' model was launched in 1966 and provided the biggest
one-time jump in power output - by a whopping 25% to 50 bhp. The
1960's brought great strides in motorway development and VW's
competitors were building ever faster cars to cover the tarmac. The
'1300' was fundamental in ensuring that the Beetle was able to keep
up with the modern pace. With tighter gearing and having been tuned
also for higher rpm. the nimble acceleration of the '1300' was also
more than a match for the later models in the form of the 1500
& 1600 and these characteristics have made the '1300' one of
the most nostalgic and desired classic Beetle incarnations.
Criticised for over-steering characteristics. VW deployed a double
jointed rear axle from 1969 which all but eliminated the problem
making the '1300' a truly well balanced and highly capable
machine.
This righthand drive UK car was first registered on 1 st May
1969. Optioned in Sea Sand with black vinyl upholstery. the three
previous owners had the car for 9. 11 and 24 years respectively
before a father and then his son's most recent ownership. Cherished
throughout its life. genuine VW parts have always been used and
every effort taken to keep the car as close as possible to when it
left the factory. even down to the five brand new period style Toyo
330 165/80 profile tyres. Consequently this car not only looks like
a timewarp example but also sounds and feels like a brand new
Beetle to drive. This fastidiously maintained. low mileage example
is presented in pristine condition and is a good candidate for a
collector looking for a potential concours show
piece.
