1951 Singer 9 4AB Tourer for sale
Current customer rating:
This rare and unusual four-seat Singer Tourer was built in Coventry in 1951. Whilst slightly modernised in 4 AB generation. the open tourer was basically the same car as the pre-war Singer 9.
Whilst MGs of this generation are plentiful. Singers are now extremely rare. but have the advantage of combining seating for four with a pretty. sports open body.
This example was fully. professionally restored in the late 90 s. This included a fully body rebuild. The wood frame is excellent whilst the chassis is solid. original and unrepaired.
The paintwork is superb and the bright-work has been rechromed and is in excellent condition. The interior has been retrimmed in red leather cloth. the dashboard restored and all gauges working correctly. Full weather gear is included (although it's a little old) including front and rear side screens.
One peculiarity of this car is that when it was restored the original 37 hp 1074 cc engine and gearbox was replaced with a twin-carb 1275 cc MG Midget engine and four-speed gearbox. The engine runs very sweetly with excellent oil pressure and the gearbox smooth and quiet. This endows the Singer with substantially improved performance and ease of maintenance. This conversion is also correctly recorded on the V 5 C registration document.
The Singer has recently received a new set of correct crossply tyres and has just flown through an Mo T even though it's not strictly necessary on a car of this era.
On the button and ready to go. A great value way into open vintage motoring and a rare car.
