1988 Volvo 780 Coupe. 2. 8 litre V6. blue on blue.  I'm not trying to kid anyone into thinking this car's mint: it's not.   It's solid. without rust. and in great mechanical condition. but the paint is the worst part.   The clearcoat and rubber are a little rough. the interior suffered a little too.

The car came from Oregon about 8 years ago. the history before that is unknown.   The body has some dents & dings. but no heavy damage.   The roof and trunk were resprayed in my garage to make it them a little prettier. but they look like they were done in a garage and should be redone along with the rest of the body.   The interior is complete. the dash has some cracks in it. the finish on the wood needs to be redone. and the driver's door panel isn't perfect. some of the power seat controls are a bit flakey and the heated seats don't work. Everything else does though - air conditioning. power antenna. windows. lights. cruise. PW & PDL. etc.  The leather is stiff but not rock hard. the back seats have some cracks along the top edge but they're all comfortable.

The motor is the most surprising part - when I got the car it leaked everything but I went through the motor a couple years ago and was shocked at the incredible condition it was in! With 200. 00 miles on it. everything was still in serviceable condition. All new gaskets and seals. new knock sensors. a light hone and lots of valve lapping. lots of cleaning and paint. and now it's a little jewel. I assembled this car for myself. not to sell. so I took my time and did it all right.   I upgraded the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds with parts from an Eagle Premier (believe it or not). using the Volvo camshafts and valvetrain.   I replaced the crank position and knock sensors. spark plugs. fuel injectors. and made sure everything was perfect.   The engine runs like a top.   I built the exhaust from 2” and 3” stainless pipe. with two Dynomax performance mufflers.   It's no rocketship but it's not as much of a pig as it was when new.

The front suspension has polyurethane bushings in all three positions in the lower control arms. plus the endlink bushings.   The front struts (Bilstien Touring Class) were bought new and only have a couple thousand miles on them.   The strut cushions were changed at the same time.   The balljoints & tie rod ends were replaced when I got the car. they have about 20k miles on them.   The rear suspension had Nivomat self leveling units in it. but they were wrecked so I replaced the rear springs with firmer ones and the shocks were repurposed BIlstien HD from a 740.   Brakes are in great shape.   The tires are 205/55x15 General UHP on 7” wide Bertone Turbo wheels. the tires are in great shape too.

In short. this car is not perfect.   It is a good driver for a 27 year old car and it is reliable and solid.   It's neat to drive and is something you don't see every day. and in spite of its flaws it's not embarrassing to be seen in or with.   If you're a Volvo fan you've probably appreciated these to some degree. and now is your chance.

The car comes with some extra parts. interior and whatnot. spare engine and ignition computers. and there are some other parts for the car that I can make a deal on as well. Home-made headers. spare cylinder heads. camshafts and rockers. even some hard-to-find parts to convert the car to a manual transmission are available for a small extra cost.
