For sale by auction on Saturday 30 August 2014 with Historics at Brooklands. Brooklands Motor Racing Circuit. Weybridge. Surrey. Call 01753 639170
Although having a family resemblance to the XK 120 and XK 140. the
XK 150 was radically modernised. A one piece windscreen replaced the
split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the
doors. The bonnet was widened. opened down to the wings and on the
roadster. the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the
bonnet longer. Thinner doors gave more interior space. The standard
engine. the same as fitted to the XK 140. was the 3. 4 litre DOHC
Jaguar straight six rated at 180 bhp at 5750 rpm but most cars were
fitted with the SE engine that had a modified cylinder head with
larger exhaust valves rated at 210 bhp at 5500 rpm. Twin 1¾ -inch SU
HD 6 carburettors were also fitted. Four-wheel Dunlop 12" disc
brakes appeared for the first time although it was theoretically
possible to order a car with drums. Either wire wheels or steel
wheels could be specified. Suspension and chassis were very similar
to that on the XK 140. These were high performance. well appointed
sports touring cars and could cope with long distances with
alacrity.
Despatched from Jaguar car on 8 th September 1960 and
shipped to New York. this lefthand drive XK 150 has recently
returned to the UK from California. Chassis number S 838929 is
within the last 100 to be manufactured and as such defines this as
being a rare and desirable example. Having been stood for many
years. this Jaguar is in need of total restoration. The engine we
are advised turns freely. although has not run for a very long
time. Restoration projects come in all shapes. sizes and marques. br/>this one is well worth completing due to the prestige of owning one
of the very last Jaguar XK 150's ever to leave Browns
Lane.
