Designed by Alex Issigonis in 1959. a new concept in car design
was born.
With a monocoque shell. transversely mounted engine
and front wheel drive. the new 'Mini'. as it was commonly known. br/>soon became popular across a broad spectrum of the
population.
The potential for competition use was soon seen
by John Cooper and although Alex Issigonis was less keen. BMC were
finally persuaded by John Cooper and the two worked together in
culminating the birth of the Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris Mini
Cooper in 1961. The S had a 1071 cc engine with a strengthened
bottom end to allow for further tuning. Victories in the 1964. 1965
and 1967 Monte Carlo Rallies set the Mini on the road to fame but
probably the greatest publicity was gained from their (somewhat
unfair) disqualification for lighting irregularities in the 1966
event after coming in 1 st. 2 nd and 3 rd.
This excellent Morris Mini Cooper was uprated to rally
specification in 1995 for the well known British rally and saloon
car racing driver. Louise Aitken-Walker MBE to use in Scottish
historic rallies. The engine has been uprated to 1340 S
specification including +60 squeeze cast pistons giving a
compression of 11:1. new Omega piston rings. lightweight. polished
and balanced con rods with ARP high tensile bolts. a balanced Metro
crank shaft with standard polished journals. Standard Competition
Vandervell shell bearings. Piper BP 300 rally/race cam shaft. br/>Vernier timing gear. lightened flywheel. new water pump. new oil
pump. polished cylinder head. skimmed 36. 5 mm and 31 mm valves fitted
with new Isky valve springs. machined top caps and forged rockers
with spacers. The gearbox is fitted with straight cut gears and has
a limited slip differential. The car was acquired by its current
owner in 1998 who has since won many awards including an outright
victory in the 2001 Yorkshire Classic. It is in excellent cosmetic
condition. finished in green with white roof - together with a full
rallying interior including intercoms etc. This Morris Mini Cooper
is supplied with a V 5 C registration document. an Mo T test
certificate which expires in July 2015 and a history file
containing a buff logbook and a Heritage Certificate. This is a
seriously exciting Mini on the road and it has lots of competition
potential and is available at a fraction of the cost of building
such a car today.
