Critics of the TC 108G liked its style and performance. but
passenger and luggage accommodation were unsatisfactory.
Accordingly the amalgamated firm of Mulliner Park Ward - by now a
Rolls-Royce subsidiary - was approached to redesign the body to
meet with British market requirements. The result was the TD21
which was introduced late in 1958. Park Ward's redesign of the body
retained a superficial resemblance to Hermann Graber's original. br/>but allowed greater room; especially in the rear. and better
luggage capacity.

The example offered here was purchased from new by Judge D M
Bevington and. although he has since passed away. his daughter has
fond memories of the car as she was allowed to choose the colour
when they went to order it from the factory in 1959. It was
subsequently bought by the second owner. John Dyas - sight unseen -
from a small ad in The Sunday Times while he was stationed in
Northern Ireland during the 'troubles'. It arrived with 73. 00
recorded miles. In the subsequent summer months. the car was used
mainly when the weather permitted. and also as the wedding car for
his daughter in 1984. In fact the whole family enjoyed USK553 with
frequent trips through the French and English countryside. In 1991. br/>the car underwent an extensive restoration taking some nine months
which included a full strip down. rebuild and re-paint. The
brightwork was restored or replaced as necessary and the interior
re-furbished. The engine and drivetrain were also overhauled and
the car was finished off with new chrome wire wheels. She returned
to the highways of Hampshire in the summer of 1993 resplendent in
her new colour of Alice Blue. It was much used after the rebuild
with the occasional classic rally undertaken. Over the last few
years. the Alvis has sadly spent less time on the roads of England
as the health of Mr. Dyas declined. but his son would speak to him
in the hospice by telephone and he would listen as the car would be
run up to temperature and be reassured that all was well. With over
37 years ownership by the second owner and a recent full
restoration. this most elegant of examples comes complete with a
fully documented history file and indeed won Best Alvis in the car
park at the International Alvis Day at Bowood House in 1994.

More recently. the current vendor has taken this now superb
example to the next level and replaced the hood with a £4. 00
Mohair unit. completely re-trimmed the interior and added new wire
wheels all round. The upgrades go deeper however. with a full
engine rebuild costing over £3. 00. With a full MoT test
certificate and comprehensive history file. this represents a truly
magnificent example.
