That Jaguar's XJS will become a 'bona fide' classic is beyond
doubt. Launched in 1975. its twenty one year production life was a
testimony to the excellence of its basic design. With all round
independent coil sprung suspension. power assisted rack and pinion
steering. disc brakes and its excellent ride/handling balance it
was justifiably praised by the contemporary motoring press. The
XJS's superlative 5. 3 litre engine developed some 295 bhp in later
fuel injected form and when allied to automatic transmission gave
an authoritative 150 mph performance. The targa element of the car
was often preferred over the straight convertible as it added more
torsional rigidity thus resulting in the car being a delight to
drive.
This outstanding XJ-S Cabriolet was originally registered as a
Press car by Jaguar at Browns Lane. Coventry. E 500 JAC has had two
owners since and has covered a mere 38. 84 miles from new. The
condition of this XJ-S Cabriolet can only be described as superb.
The Racing Green paintwork is unmarked as is the barley leather
trim. The 5343 cc. V 12 engine purrs in the familiar way that only a
Jaguar V 12 does. Our test drive confirmed this to be of the highest
quality. operating with a silky smoothness commensurate to such a
marque. Only 710 V 12 Cabriolets were manufactured for the UK market
and it is thought less than 100 still exist today. Supplied with
the original handbooks. a history file. V 5 registration document
and an Mo T test certificate valid until 16 th April 2015 this is
certain to be a future classic.
