Current customer rating:
DILLY the DUB ! She was built in late 1971 and registered in California in 1972. She is. in my opinion. one of the best Camper models out there. The cross over model. early front end with low front indicators and running the Servo assisted front disc brakes. She also has the more reliable type 4 engine found in much later models. which I feel makes for better driving these days in today's modern traffic. She has the factory Westfalia conversion which is in good condition considering her age. and not forgetting she is TAX FREE !
We bought Dilly in early 2009 having spent all her life up until then in the sunny state of California and it shows. She's never been welded ! Unlike our old vw camper. which needed patch after patch of welding for the mots every year. Dilly just sails through ! The local garage that MOT'd her a couple of weeks ago said that ‘ it was the best Bay camper underneath that he had ever seen‘ . which is nice to know.
Dilly has been regularly serviced by us and in return has given us back trouble free holidays. We have good friends that live in southern France and we have driven down to them several times taking 3 weeks holidays in the summer with our 2 girls to visit them and also exploring the lovely west coast. She has been to La Rochelle. Arcachon. Bordeaux and Biarritz. We have such great memories of pottering though the French villages getting lost but always returning us back home. She is also familiar with Cornwall too. having visited the Lizard a couple of times. I always take it slow when driving her and rarely do I go above 50 mph. as I think this helps to keep her more reliable .
Her bodywork is very original. lots of patina ! Faded in the American sun . it has at some stage had some paint work to the sliding door. probably a second hand door. As you can see. the old colour of it shows through in places. but overall. I think this all adds character .
She is always garaged and looked after. but my wife and I are finding as our girls are growing older now. we are using her less and less. so with much deliberating. we have decided to sell her and hope someone will have as much fun with her as we have.
Sorry to waffle on. but Dilly has been a big part of our lives. so I suppose I'm a little sentimental about her !
Feel free to ask any questions and viewing welcome for serious enquires only.
