First introduced at Monte Carlo by the British Motor Corporation
(BMC) on the 20 th May 1958 as a low-cost model. the Sprite was
designed by the Donald Healey Motor Company. who received a royalty
payment from the manufacturers BMC. The low cost of £669 was
achieved by using a mildly tuned version of the 'A' Series engine
and as many other components from existing cars as possible.
Manufactured at the MG sports car factory at Abingdon. it was not
surprising the success of the design would lead to an MG version
which was known as the Midget.
This lovely Sprite has been the subject of a restoration and
presents in splendid condition. Originally registered on
16 th April 1970 and described by the vendor as being a
pleasure to drive. there is a comprehensive history file dating
back to 1994. Photographic evidence of the restoration is due to be
passed to us shortly. The car is finished in red with beige trim
and piped red. and sits proudly on wire wheels. It also comes
supplied with a V 5 registration document and an Mo T test
certificate valid until 10 th March 2014. Good Sprites
are hard to find and. with summer apparently just around the
corner. this represents an ideal opportunity to enjoy those long
warm evenings at an affordable price.
