The Restoration

If you have ever wanted an award winning. awesome. one of a kind 911. this is it! We spared no expense (which didn't make mama happy happy happy) restoring this excellent example of a one owner. never wrecked. zero rust 1980 911SC Weissach Edition. It took us over a year. but the entire car has been completely restored. We have hundreds of photos. before and after. of which we couldn't possibly list them all. so I'm just going to list a few and try to describe the car to the best of my ability. If you want to see more. just ask.

We spent over $18. 00 on the engine alone  going through the entire engine. which is a shame because it's all encased and hidden in the engine compartment. so I included a couple of photos of the engine before going back in the car (see the photos). we adding 10-1 compression pistons and 964 cams. new timing chains and gears. new oil cooler. all new gaskets. all new hoses. high energy light weight starter. FabSpeed High Performance stainless steel dual exhaust with heat exchange over $3000 just for the parts (see engine photo). new air compressor and condensers. over $8. 00 on all new leather interior. including the dash and steering wheel. all new carpet inside the passenger compartment and inside the bonnet. all new suspension. new gas tank. over $8600 on new Porsche Brembo Big Brakes. span >  over $8000 on paint. all new rubber gaskets for everything on the car including glass. bumpers. and all moldings. new turbo twist wheels and tires (the original tires and wheels go with the car). high quality Blaupunkt sound system. and lots more!

This car is better now than when it was new and everything works! It's not perfect. but it's pretty dang close! When we finished the car we entered it into a PCA Show and won First Place Concours d'Elegance! Not bad. huh? We put way too much time and money in this car. of which we will never get back. but the good news…our loss is your gain!

The reason for selling this beauty…I've always wanted a '69 Camaro and I was looking for one when this car came along (see the story below). but the wife says something has to go before I add to the collection. I've sold one vehicle to make room. but the wife says I need to move 2 more cars. Yes…I know what you're thinking! Wish me luck!

Below is the story on the car. We didn't go back to the original interior and exterior colors (I know that's a Cardinal Sin). but we were told by multiple enthusiast the colors we chose were more popular colors. better color combinations. and would resale better. For you “Purist. you're going to hate that we changed the colors. but you have to admit it does look better than the original. My neighbor…NOT very happy with me!

If you don't want to read The Story and The History. just skip to the bottom.

The Story

I noticed this 911 had been sitting in my neighbors drive (sometimes covered. sometimes not) for about 10-12 years and from time to time I would ask about the car and if he would ever consider selling it. You know the story. the answer was always “No!”

He's had the car since it was new and is definitely a “Purist!” With that being said. he knew I didn't know anything about the history of the car or even better yet. didn't think I would appreciate it. But I continued to ask year after year and he continued to educate me. until one day I'm sitting at home watching the game and my doorbell rings. he says. “Do you still want to buy my car?” and that's where the story begins.

The History

The 1980 Porsche 911SC Weissach is a beautiful Limited Edition model that was produced in a single model year. 1980. Only 408 were built: 204 Black and 204 Champagne.

Flashback to 1979. Porsche had been producing the spectacular 911 Turbo in a body style known as the 930. It was fast. beautiful and loved by car enthusiasts around the world. With fuel prices high and other factors affecting sales of performance cars. Porsche made the decision to discontinue the Turbo the following year. People were dismayed to say the least. Finally the company relented and agreed to produce a limited number of standard non-Turbo 911's using the 930 body in honor of the Porsche Motorsports Team and named the car after the German city where they were produced "Weissach" pronounced "Vy Sock. "

The Price

Although $32. 00 might seem like small potatoes today. in 1980 it was the equivalent of $180. 00 making this a very expensive production car. Only 408 were produced. sold exclusively to the North American market. and they were virtually all gone before production began. making this car an instant collectors' item.

Fast. By 20-Year-Old standards.

By today's standards we don't think much of a 0-60 time of 7 seconds. but in 1980 it was very fast. Not close to the speed of a Turbo Carerra. but for a standard 3. 0-litre Porsche six cylinder. that was strong acceleration indeed. What has always set Porsche apart however. in my experience. is not the acceleration but the ability to sustain extremely high speeds for long periods of time. The car could easily sustain 150mph for hours. purring along in fifth gear well below its 7. 00 RPM Redline.

Handles curves like Pamela Anderson

Nothing corners like a Porsche. and this car is no exception. In the few years I owned this beauty. I never once failed to be amazed at the perfection Porsche engineers had managed to achieve in controlling the understeer to the point that steering pretty much became a function of the throttle. The car practically steers itself around corners. The understeer-oversteer curve is fairly progressive as speed climbs. but becomes even more magnified as the line tightens.

It's like you've died and gone to heave when your navigating the “Dragons Tail” in the Carolina mountains! If you're not familiar. it has 318 mountainous “S” curves in an 11 mile stretch and is rated one of the best road courses in the world!

The suspension on the Weissach Coupe consists of standard 911 configuration: Independent MacPherson struts and torsion bar in front (no coil springs). The rear uses semi-trailing arms with a transverse 18mm torsion bar. Anti-roll bars were standard on all 911s by the time this model was produced.

The sweetest thing about Porsche in normal everyday driving is the brakes. It came standard with four oversized ventilated disc brakes. but we took it one step further and added Porsche Brembo Big Brakes all the way around make this beauty dig its heels into the pavement with amazing responsiveness.

When you purchase the car. you will get a GA Bill of Sale and a copy of my registration.
