1934 Wolseley Hornet Vintage Special in Clayton, VIC

Based on '34 Wolseley 9 hp and '34 Wolseley Hornet components. Built by a member of the VSCC of NSW. He assembled the mechanicals and had a sheet metal worker make the body. Body is aluminium and based on a "Cresta bodied" MG Magnette (see photos). It has the correct grille. Engine has correct cam cover. twin carbs and oil cooler. Needs some body work. engine cyl head finishing. brackets. paint and upholstery and assembling. The saloon chassis has been brought up to Special specifications. Work done by a well-known engineer known for Formula Ford and Historic Racing cars (the difference between saloon and Special chassis is small: Gussets. extension brackets at front for sloping radiator. slight different front crossmember . slight difference in centre x-member to allow for slight rear-ward placement of engine. in comparison to saloon). Added extra crossmember just behind diff. plus tie-bar at front between dumb-irons ( ie at very front of chassis). to stop chassis spreading and flex under load. It is fitted with 10 inch saloon brakes. Body is aluminium over 1 in square steel tube. Body is currently off as the chassis has been virtually remanufactured (pulled apart. strengthened. some new and extra crossmembers. Re-rivetted. squared and trued). The rear of the body needs finishing and comes with the aluminium sheet and the moulding to do this (need to extend the back of the body down and over the chassis). Front apron will need to be modified. Running boards need to be extended approx 5 inches and front of body near firewall. Rear guards will need the widening joint filled. Some minor tweeks may be needed at front when radiator goes in . and the rad extensions need shortening a few inches. Has new shackle pins and bushes. new kingpins and bushes. brakes re-newed. although all done mid 80's. Chassis is a roller. ie front axle. diff etc all asembled to chassis. Diff appears sound. same for gearbox. Headlights. sidelights. outside door handles and a new taillight there. 2 x seats included but need to be narrowed. 1/2 tonneau and hood in good condition. but hood does not fold. Hood irons can be made to fold. Side screens included. Engine: Block bored. new bearings. pistons. rings. Duraluminium Con-Rods. Timing chain tensioner mount has broken. need to machine new one with threaded end at rear. drill and tap the block. then thread in new tensioner mount. and lock into place. Has new oil pump drive gear. Water pump probably needs to be reconditioned. Cyl head has been cleaned. checked and machined. It needs new valves and guides (available from Wolseley Hornet Special Club UK). Cam will need new bearings and slight machining. Needs new rubber bush front engine mount. All instruments there. Speedo and Tacho not correct. but look the part and are still 5 in as per original (MK 1 V Jag). Need Tacho cable. and tacho drive from rear of camshaft in head. or MG TC type drive. attached to generator. Comes with copy of handbook. parts book. details of the body it was based on. all components. 5 new 450 x 18 Commander tires. 5 x extra bolt on wheels to convert to knock-ons. Last rego'd No \" 015 \" Dec 1978. with VSCC (NSW ). Engine NO 146 A/124. Located at Picton. NSW.
