1980 Vauxhall Chevette HSR 2. 6 TWIN CAM EX works rally car 'BVE 187 V'
Specification
Body: Genuine Safety Devices works HSR shell. Safety Devices cage. GRP panels. etc.
Engine: All steel 2. 6 works Big Valve Head. Dry Sump. 48 Dellortos
Gearbox: 5 Speed Getrag Direct Top
Axle: F Floating Atlas
Suspension: Works DTV front crossmember and arms. Four link and Panhard Rod works rear.
Wheels: Genuine magnesium Minilies Group 4 fitting
Brakes: AP Monte Carlo front. AP 2 pot rear
Lights: Cibie spots with works lamp brackets and stays.
Car also comes with period Corbeau GT 8 seats. all period dash. rear trim for fuel tank. all works parts.
History
• In the history of the car drivers included Penti Arrikalla. Jimmy Mc Rae and Bertie Law.
• It is one of only 16 works HSR Chevette's built by Dealer Team Vauxhall in 1980.
• It started off life as LHD with Pentti Airikkala did 1980 Artic Rally and Swedish Rally (finishing 6 th) before being converted to right hand drive for Jimmy Mc Rae.
• Its first event with Jimmy was the 1980 Scottish Rally where it finished 7 th. He also won the 1980 Castrol National Rally in the car.
• Donie Keating won the Irish National Championship in the car.
• Bertie Law has great success with the car - he was Irish National Champion in BVE in both 1983 and 1984 and NI Sprint and Hillclimb Champion in 1985. He also won the prestigious Lurgan Park event in 1984. and was very successful in rallycross with the car. before retiring it at the end of 1987.
• The restoration was completed in 1994 by WRC mechanic Dean Hetherington
