1923 BSA TA 11 Drophead Coupe With Dickey Seat
A very original example of this rare and desirable car fitted with factory coach built bodywork in alloy over an ash frame. This car has never been restored but merely maintained in good order although at some point it has been re-trimmed to a good standard and the body side panels have been re-sprayed. The alloy floor panels together with the bonnet and dickey lid are correct and original unpainted alloy. It has rear wheel brakes only with the unusual feature of four sets of shoes in each drum. with one set being operated by the foot brake and the other by the hand brake.
Tyres are high pressure beaded edge with four brand new 'Waymaster Cord' and tubes fitted to each road wheel. Windscreen is a patent 'M. E' screen by 'Motor Equipments Ltd. ' The instrument panel and the fork headlights are by Rotax which are in good condition except for one lens being cracked. Speedometer is a Swiss made Jaeger with the odometer showing approx. 14400 miles which might be correct although we have no corroboration of this. The dashboard clock is a rare collector's piece in itself being a Swiss made 'Argentan' time piece fitted into an angled brass holder and retained by a knurled threaded ring. By undoing the ring the clock can be removed to act as a large pocket watch. Suspension is by four quarter elliptic springs still protected by factory original leather gaiters. Engine is a four cylinder sleeve valve unit with hemispherical heads and alloy pistons of approx 1200 cc swept volume. Unusually for a car of this age it is fitted with its original coil ignition rather than a troublesome magneto.
Fuel feed is by gravity from a front tank. The clutch is a sweetly operating cork lined unit running in oil. The gearbox is a three speed crash type but is easy to use. Rear axle is a silent worm and wheel unit. The car runs on unleaded fuel as there are no valve seats in the engine. This car is not an immaculate trailer queen but a sound and solid machine with much potential.
Everything on the car works as it should including the charging circuit and lights. Although the car is MOT exempt it will have a new voluntary certificate issued for added peace of mind. It is of course road tax exempt.
Vintage cars of this type have proved over the years to be excellent investments and this car should be no exception. Although we have tried to give an accurate description your inspection of this car is welcomed and encouraged by telephoning this number………………. for an appointment prior to bidding. We will only accept bids from persons with 100% positive feedback from at least ten transactions. No scammers or overseas bids please as you are wasting your time. You are bidding to buy not to kick tyres and haggle.
Time wasters will be given negative feedback. At the close of the auction a non returnable deposit of £200 must be paid by Paypal within one hour. The car will only be released when we are receipt of either the balance in cash on collection or cleared funds if paid by cheque or bankers draft. We will not release the car in exchange for un cleared bankers draft. Happy bidding!
