1970 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible – Rare!!

All original / Numbers Matching / Fantastic original condition

L46 Motor – 350 CI / 350 HP

·         4. 10 made with L46 motors (base motor was a 350CI / 300HP)

·         39% of overall production were convertibles in 1970

·         That equals (rough estimate) 1. 00 convertible L46's made

Original Color Donneybrooke Green  (982 color code)

·         There were 11 color options.   Assuming there were equal numbers of all colors made (which is ridiculous. marlboro maroon. monza red. Bridgehampton blue. Daytona yellow. etc. ) that means there could not have been more than 150 of these ever made more likely to be closer to 100 or just under.   Add the original black vinyl hardtop and we are getting into rare territory.

·         Unfortunately. there are no accurate records from this lowest production year (lowest since 1962) that specify the numbers made of each color.

Saddle convertible top

Original Black Vinyl Hardtop (WOW!!!!) -$1. 00 value

Saddle interior (418 color code)

The Story:

I purchased this car 10 months ago from a gentleman in Arkansas that is a collector and former manager of a Chevrolet dealership's parts department.   He collects and resells classic vettes.   As a knowledgeable steward of the brand. he is into preservation.

Upon receipt. this car was near perfect cosmetically.   There areonly two issues I am aware of.   One. the convertible top rear window has a small hole.   Two. there is a ding behind the headrest of the drivers seat from dropping the seat after recline (very common with Stingray convertibles).

From the history I have (an exhaustive amount of paperwork and receipts dating back to a restoration that occurred around 2003) the car had an excellent repaint of the original color around this time.   The paint is insanely good and deep like an ocean!!!  It gets endless compliments wherever I go.

In addition. an entirely new interior carpet set and seat covers were installed and still look new.   New front and rear chrome bumpers. door gaskets. headlight pump.

It has a custom (and fully removable) kick panel in the passenger foot well that houses a Pioneer Elite head unit with remote control so you do not need to reach.   Also a pair of Infinity Reference 6x9 Speakers are housed in custom (and fully removable) boxes in the rear under the convertible hard boot cover.   The car sounds so good you will never turn the stereo above a whisper but should you decide to do so. it sounds great!

The car seemed great mechanically but I had an issue starting it and knew it was the carb's automatic choke (Yes. an original Rochester Quadrajet!!) so I took it into D&M Corvette in Chicago.   They are arguably the best corvette shop you could find and from what I understand. they do resto work for the corvette museum.   Could be folk lore but from what I see of their work and the cars they have lined up waiting to be worked on. they are the real deal.

Anyway. they performed a front to back check and performed the following items to bring the car to perfect mechanical condition (that was my direction).   The cost was $6. 00 and included the following items:

·         Complete engine tune

o    Replaced Dist cap. rotor. plugs. points. PCV valve. PCV hose. plug wire set

·         Replaced motor mounts

·         Replaced fuel pump flex hose

·         Replace steering idler arm. front sway bar links and steering column coupler

·         Replaced alternator belt

·         Full brake service Including flush

·         Rear axle lube service

·         Replaced oil pan gaskets and seals

·         Replaced trans side shifter lever seals and fluid

·         Replaced rear differential frame member cushion mounts

·         Replaced heads (crappy aftermarket units were on when purchased) with date correct 1970 originals newly rebuilt for me

After this work was done. I removed the redline bias tires for a lack of love for their ride quality and installed a brand new set of BF Goodrich Radial AT's that look great and perform even better.   I still have the redlines from the pics and will include them in the sale.   They have plenty of life left to be used for car shows and cruise nights.

I've only put 300 miles on the car since I purchased it.   I've now completed my work. the car is in as close to perfect condition as I can make it.   It's time to move it along its path and me to begin the same efforts on a soon to be perfect C2!

The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction early. Contact me through eBay so we can share phone numbers if you have questions or wish to discuss an offer.

Best of luck with what will NO DOUBT be one of the best cars you ever own.   A 1970 Stingray Convertible in this condition in what I believe to be the best possible color combo…. take advantage of a rare opportunity to own  car that will only appreciate in value.
