I have decided to sell my much loved Talbot Samba as he failed his MOT yesterday as a project for someone. I have owned him for 12 years and know he is now a very rare car (only 35 left in the UK). but with 2 young children I now don't have the time to use him so want him to go to a new home. He is great fun to look at and drive. and as a classic car he is cheap to insure and run.
I have loads of history and receipts etc back to 1996 and he has a full service history and dealer stamped book from dealers in Surrey and then Sheffield before the book got full!. He was bought in Paris in Feb 1983 and then moved straight over to Surrey where he stayed. The same family. the Mitchells. look from the history to have owned him for years. Miss Mitchell got him in 2000 and lived in London and I bought him via a dealer in 2002.
all photos were taken today or yesterday so show his current condition.
I have owned him since May 2002 and used him regularly and looked after him well and took him to a couple of local car shows for fun to show him off. He was stored in a dry garage until around 3 years ago. he then went under a cover outside for the winter and i took him off the road in 2012. His last MOT expired in July 2012 and he is currently SORN.

I took him yesterday for his MOT but he failed on a number of items. which are detailed below. In 2010 and 2011 he passed his MOT fine (only advisory was belts could not be tested due to car seat in place).  He has not needed much work for his MOT prior to now. He failed on:
nearside & offside headlamps not working on dipped beam or main beam (this is only because on the dashboard it does not light up but his headlights and sidelights do work outside the car)rear fog light not workingoffside front. nearside rear and offside rear body or chassis has excessive corrosion seriously effecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountingsfront passenger door cannot be opened from outside the vehicle (handle stuck but door does open from inside)exhaust emissions C02 excessive (5. 57 when limit 4. 5)front brake binding
other points to note: the dashboard fused a couple of years ago meaning the lights on the dashboard are in reverse. eg the battery light glows brightly but this shows the battery is ok. the main beam light comes on when its on dipped beam etc. The petrol gauge and temp gauge only work when they feel like it. the rev counter has recently stopped working. The speedo is fine. the roof retracts and is complete. but there is a new tear from this winter on the top and the start of another on the top. some tattyness at either side. the bodywork is good for its year BUT the boot lid lets it down. We did have a go at repairing it but this shows and so it doesn't look great.
other good points: He works and runs well and has loads of paperwork to show he has been looked after. This is a luxury car of its time with 5 gears. a nippy 1. 4 engine and electric front windows that still work (but very slowly!). Rear windows are manual. interior is very neat and clean and original. only drivers seat shows some wear on the edge. I still have the original Paris Talbot radio which came with the car. I did put a new stereo in it which works. It still has its original tourneau cover in beige to match the roof and its spare wheel. the spare sits in the engine bay. Original Talbot 3 stud alloys. He still has his original FRENCH numberplate underneath his UK one on the front! We used Redex in the tank everytime we filled up as lead replacement. the retro Cabriolet stickers were on it when i bought it so you can't blame me for them but i like them and they suit him.
viewings are welcome if you are interested in buying . we are in Sheffield 8. Also happy to take questions and have loads more photos. or can supply more if needed. No reserve as he needs to go.
cash on collection fine BUT i will need a deposit of £50 paying by paypal within 24 hours of auction ending to show you are real and genuine. I did put this car up for sale about 2 years ago and got messed about so not wanting any timewasters so you are bidding to buy please.
thanks
