vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this gorgeous 1978 Trans Am in great driver condition and priced to sell. This Trans Am features the very desirable factory 4 speed transmission coupled with the factory ordered "W72" high performance 400 engine. This TA is totally unmolested with only 46. 89 actual miles. The awesome condition of the original interior is also a great testament to the low miles on this fantastic TA. The beautiful and desirable color combinations of Mayan Red over Black deluxe cloth interior is the correct factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below. This Trans Am looks great. runs awesome. and is fun to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic TA that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The engine block has a correct "WC" stamp for a W72 400ci Pontiac engine. which is pictured below. The transmission is original with the last six digits of the VIN. 168205. stamped on the main case. which is pictured below. The casting date for the transmission. also pictured below. is "3. 29. 78". or March 29. 1978. which is correct as it predates the car's build date of the first week of May 1978 (05A). Please peruse all of the photos and video below to get a true sense of how nice and correct this Trans Am really is.

As a side note. this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Pontiac. just give us a call.

condition

Exterior

The Mayan Red exterior is in beautiful driver condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a bright gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. The decals are correct and in good shape. Even the iconic shaker remains uncut after all these years. just another indication to the TA's dedicated preservation. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos. but nothing that is really noticeable from about two or five feet away. The body and paint is in nice condition overall as one can see in the photos and video but there are some small door dings and a few small bubbles in a couple of areas. We have taken specific photos of the quarters. rockers. underside. and other areas most prone to rust to show how clean this car is. Often times Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends. this car does not. although there are a couple of areas on both bumpers that show light spider webbing. The tires have great tread left on them and are sized 225/70/15. The reconditioned original 15"x7" snowflake wheels are in excellent shape with new center caps and lug nuts and no curb rash. All of the weather stripping and window sweeps are in good usable condition. Trunk is clean and freshly painted with a new trunk mat and has no rust as one can see in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Windshield: GJ - "G" denotes April and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the windshield was made in April of 1978.

Driver: LJ - "L" denotes March and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the driver's side window was made in March of 1978.

Passenger: GJ - "G" denotes and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the passenger's side window was made in April of 1978.

Rear: GJ - "G" denotes and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the rear window was made in April of 1978.

Please note that all the glass on this TA is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of the first week May. 1978 (05A). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The black deluxe interior of this Trans Am looks splendid and truly amazing for being original. The seat covers are original Lombardy cloth material and are in excellent condition with no excessive wear. rips. or stains. Please note that these are the original seats and covers. not some cheap aftermarket replacements. The carpet is in great condition with no major stains. rips. or holes. although there is one small wear spot by the gas pedal. The original dash is in spectacular condition with no cracks. fading. sun damage. or warping. The stereo has been upgraded to a two prong Audiovox 50W Cassette player with 3-way 6x9 Audiovox speakers. This system sounds amazing and was professionally installed and looks at home in this TA. Most importantly. since the radio is an original two prong style the dash was not cut for the installation. The original engine turned dash bezel is in excellent shape. so is the original shifter knob. original shifter plate. and original console. All interior plastics are in excellent condition and not chalky. cracked. or in need of refinishing. All of the interior lights and gauges work as they should outside of the clock. the lenses on two of the gauges are a bit cloudy. The door panels are originals as well and are in great condition with no cracks or splits. and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner has recently been recovered and is in great condition with no sagging or stains. The package tray is newly installed and in excellent shape with no warping. or fading. This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks or no smoke aroma what so ever. Please note that the pedal pads show wear consistent for a car with about 46. 00 miles. Original GM interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am is in good mechanical condition with only miles of 46. 89 on the clock. This TA has the correct "WC" engine block code stamped in the factory position signifying it as a "W72" high performance Pontiac 400 factory engine. It is a wonderful driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time. idles well. runs great. and shifts smoothly. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The car shifts well and does not pop out of gear. This ta still retains its original catalytic converter which again speaks to the low mileage on the car and originality of this TA. Dual exhaust has been installed from the converter back so the car has a nice rumble while idling or driving. Also. the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights. gauges. horn. and wipers. The AC system is intact. complete. and seems like it is working properly with the compressor clicking on as it should as one can observe in the video. We have been unable to correctly test it due to the very cold temperatures in our area. This TA has lots of power being a factory ordered "W72" 4 speed car and drives marvelously. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially on a beautiful day rowing through the gears.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1978 Trans Am is in great driver condition. The rare and sought-after options. great color combination. very low original mileage. and 4 speed W72 make this Trans Am especially important difficult to duplicate. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.

vehicle video

For an eleven minute video of the car starting. running. a walk around. and function check please visit:

http://youtu. be/07hsjXSBH2I .

Also. we have received some questions about some perceived smoke observed in the video with the car running. Please note that this is not burning oil. a blown head gasket. or smoke from the engine. When we shot the video with was about 30 degrees in the open shop and the what one may observe as smoke from the exhaust with the car running is really just steam/condensation. The same effect can be seen in our other videos from the same time such as this vehicle: http://youtu. be/pgfhcht792U .
