1963 Olds Dynamic 88 2-Door Hardtop Coupe

- 394 UHC Rocket V8. Automatic. Power Steering. Power Brakes - ONLY 99K MILES!

Up for auction is a beautiful. original-condition hardtop coupe that is truly a Montana "barn find" minus the barn aspects. I bought this car from the son of the deceased owner who left his house (with this car in the garage) to his son. who lived out of state and decided to sell both. Apparently his father somewhat of an eccentric. and so the neighbors told me. one day back in 1979 he got a parking ticket in Virginia City. MT. and was so angry that he parked the car in the garage and swore he'd never drive it again. There it sat under a thin layer of dust until I pulled it out last year - you can see in one of the last photos a 1977 calendar from the glove box with the '80 sticker that he never got around to putting on the plate! The final photo shows the car still in the garage as I found it. The car was protected from the weather and sun the whole time. It is in remarkably preserved shape and I will try to describe it to the fullest extent possible. This is truly a gorgeous car and a great driver - and the best word for this car is CLEAN!

Exterior

The cosmetic condition of the car is outstanding. It is an ivory color with more color than came out in the photos (ie. its more "ivory" than "white"). The paint is the factory enamel. After I pulled it out of the garage I gently washed the car and then had a vile of factory-coded paint made to touch up any chips. after which I did a two-stage machine compound and wax job; it is truly gorgeous as can be seen in the photos. The stainless trim and chrome are also in beautiful condition. and the underside of the car is clean as well. We don't salt the roads in Montana and this car is absolutely RUST FREE. and also shows no signs of any accidents. A few minor things: there are three small dings that could easily be fixed by a competent body shop. which I am not. so I'll leave them to the new owner - one on each door and one by the front of the left rear wheel well. There is a crack on the passenger side of the windshield (see photo). I will be happy to provide photos of all defects if requested (eBay only allows 24 photos).

Interior

It is difficult to capture in photos how gorgeous the red interior is. and how immaculate the dash is. The seats have no tears and are very comfortable. The headliner is perfect. Neither the dash pad nor steering wheel have a crack in them. nbsp;and the controls look hardly used. Everything - gauges. lights. horn. heater. radio. wipers. clock - work. including the optional rear defrost. The car has the original Oldsmobile factory floor mats. carpet. and dealer-installed front seat belts. The seats are in beautiful shape. very comfortable. and the only tear I've found is one about 1 inch in size. on the side of the drivers' seatback just above the seat belt anchor (visible in second photo of the seats). Everywhere you look is just like the factory put it together; the underside of the dash looks brand new. All I've done is lightly clean the interior - I didn't even put Armor All on the seats. so that you could see their true shine. The door panels are as new (no water damage/rips) with the exception of some light wear on the plastic chrome of the driver's armrest. The trunk has its factory side panels and floor mat. which has some stains (see photo). but if that were replaced the trunk would look nearly unused. The package tray paint has flaked away in spots presumably due to the rear defrost. but could easily be repainted (see photo).

Drivetrain

The car is equipped with the "Ultra High Compression" Rocket 394 V8. with 280 HP and 430 lb/ft of torque. and boy does it have it! Paired with the 2. 56 rear end. she really flies down the highway. and is quiet and smooth as can be. I had a professional mechanic rebuild the brake system and it works flawlessly and stops the car quickly.  The motor. tranny. driveline. axle. exhaust system. and front end are all tight and in great condition. As a sign of how much I believe this. I recently drove the car on a 200 mile trip and the car performed flawlessly; this would make a great car if you want to be able to just get in and drive.  You can tell this car was always babied. and I've left the numerous oil change stickers on the car which show that it received regular lubes and service up until it went into storage. The engine compartment is clean and factory original. Two minor things: sometimes the float sticks in the carb after its been sitting. but that could be adjusted; it always loosens up once you tap on it. Also. after the car has been sitting for some time. the fuel pump has a hard time pulling the gas up to it. but this is not a problem if it gets regular use; a rebuild might be desired by the new owner. The exhaust is clear and with no visible smoke.

When I first got the car home. because it had sat so long I dumped the oil and put in a mix of 5w-30. Marvel and a little Sea Foam. with a new filter. I then pulled all the spark plugs and soaked the cylinders in penetrating oil before turning the motor over. allowing it to pull the light mixture up into the motor before starting it. The gas tank was dropped and cleaned. reinstalled with an inline fuel filter. and fresh gas. I put in the new plugs and she started right up; I let it idle for about 30 minutes to get everything cleaned up inside and then dropped the light oil and put in fresh 10W-30 and another new filter. Ever since then she's run perfectly. with plenty of power and no problems. The motor has new plugs. oil/filter. air filter. factory correct coded replacement radiator hoses/clamps. and new belts. I saved the old plugs for the new owner to see that the cylinders all burned evenly. The tranny fluid was clean and left alone. and it shifts just like a "Slim Jim" Hydromatic should. The front end has been greased and the rear end oil level checked. The car rides on vintage Goodyear dual-stripe bias ply's which are tubed. If one was going to take the car on long trips he might want to replace the tires as they do have some sidewall checking. but they are in overall good shape and go down the road just fine. A little vibration over 70mph would probably be remedied with a new balancing.

Overall

This is a remarkably preserved car with a great story. all ready to go. I have replaced everything necessary so that you can just turn the key and enjoy her. and I'm confident you won't find a better one. "They're only original once" and this car is. I would say. better than a restoration. The title is clear and notorized. I have gone to great lengths to describe the car accurately and in detail. including its minor flaws. and will be happy to provide more photos on request and answer any questions you may have. This is a 50 year old car and all potential buyers are encouraged to ask questions and see the car in person before bidding; it is located in Belgrade. MT and is available for any potential bidder to see in person and drive. It is sold "AS-IS" and "WHERE-IS" and absolutely no warrantees are made concerning it or its condition. either expressed or implied. Please note that a $500 Paypal deposit is due at auction close. and that the only payment that I will accept is the balance in cash upon transfer of the vehicle.

This is a solid investment and I have placed the opening bid thousands below its book value. and have offered a very fair Buy-It-Now price. If you live near a larger metro area. you could probably flip this and make a few thousand. Check out my 100% Positive feedback and bid with confidence.

Thanks and good luck!
