1957 BRA Cobra 427

The BRA 427 is one of the rarest Cobra replicas out there. Only 38 were produced thirty years ago before Shelby threatened BRA with legal action due to the 427's similarity to the real thing.

Built around thirty years ago. this Cobra benefits from the registration regulations of the time that allowed it to be correctly registered as a 1957 AC. thus making it tax exempt. MoT exempt (should you wish) and eligible for events such as the Goodwood Revival pre-1960 show. It also makes it ideal for export to Europe where it is difficult to get ‘modern' Cobra replicas registered.

Finished in dark midnight blue with a relatively tall stance. deep-dish Halibrand style wheels with tall profile tyres. under slung exhausts and a simple. tasteful black interior make it look much more like a genuine Cobra 427 than most replicas. A little patina helps the authentic look too.

Mechanically. the BRA uses Jaguar front and rear axles. and under the bonnet is. as all good Cobras should have. an American V8 engine. In this case it's the fabulous 350 cubic inch (5. 7-litre) Chevrolet small block. allied to a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. The engine is in perfect order with excellent oil pressure and beautifully smooth. The transmission is equally smooth and benefits from a B&M shifter. This engine and gearbox combination in a car as light as this gives incredible performance and. of course. sounds fabulous.

In 2004 the Cobra was given a new wiring loom and the suspension was replaced with fully adjustable Leda coil overs.

The interior is very nicely trimmed with good quality carpeting. lovely leather low-back seats. harnesses. Jaeger gauges and a wood-rim steering wheel.

Currently the Cobra is fitted with aluminium ‘pit lifters' on the bumper mounts for a race look. however conventional bumpers and over-riders come with the car.

Overall a very rare and authentic looking Cobra that represents great value for money. 12 months MoT.
