This German built. Australian delivered 220s left the Stuttgart production line on 16. 6. 1958. Although the early service history is lost. it is known that it was sold in Melbourne. and eventually worked its way to North Queensland with the 3rd owner. This is where I purchased it from and drove it. sight unseen. to Sydney – a distance of 2400 km. The only problems were a slipping clutch due to a shortage of oil in the semi-automatic transmission (corrected in Brisbane). which had not been checked for 5 years. and a condenser failing just as I was about the leave Brisbane. I have also just had the carburetors rebuilt at a cost of just over $600 and now it runs better than ever.
Surprising as it may seem. this is the original factory colour (218). It must have been a very brave owner to buy a car in this colour in 1958. It was a special order colour. so presumably. at additional cost and apparently the only one delivered to Australia. Likewise. the Hydrak transmission was also a special order option. adding approx. 5% to the base price of the car. which was around £1500. This compares to a Holden. which was priced at £849.
Repainted and the motor rebuilt approx. 8 years ago. but with minimal mileage since. this car is ready to be enjoyed. with minimal finishing work required. There are some minor electrical issues that should be attended to. This is reflected in the selling price.

As this is on club registration. it is not transferable. however if you join a club. such as the MBCNSW. you can arrange for conditional registration such as this has.

KM shown are miles. and are believed to be actual. I also have the original registration plates for the car.

Price is negotiable. and it is preferable that it goes to an enthusiast. I have another one of the same year. also with a hydrak transmission. and therefore I don't need two of them. I also have a number of other classic cars. mainly Mercedes. and should be able to answer any queries you might have. I am also a member of the Mercedes-Benz clubs of Victoria. NSW. and Queensland.
