Retro Marques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner this extremely rare Vauxhall Velox Caleche Convertible by Holden – 539 XUL.
A rare car – understood to be one of only 2 roadworthy examples in the UK and. although essentially a 1949-model Vauxhall Velox. this is the Caleche L-series Convertible made by Holden in Melbourne. Australia.
The Velox is the larger. more powerful 6-cylinder 2275 cc. 54 bhp model whereas the similar Wyvern had the 4-cylinder engine. both being produced as 4-door saloons for the UK market.

3-speed column-shift (synchro on 2 nd and 3 rd)
First registered 1 January 1949 (and in the UK on 20 May 2008)
Mo T certificates to June 2013 and now exempt
Historic road tax (tax disc to 30 April 2014)
Full set of weather equipment (as new)
Lap-belts fitted
Box of spares and comprehensive set of manuals
Recent maintenance including:
New headlamps and all lights/bulbs checked
New ‘pork pie' rear lights
New Lucas indicator rear lights
New spark plugs and silicone leads
Steering box topped up
Air filter removed. cleaned. oiled
Steering tracking checked
Spare key cut
This Caleche is driving very nicely – quite strong on the road with quite light. direct steering. good brakes and an engine which pulls well and is nice and smooth. as one might expect from a straight-6.
Overall the car is in very good condition – as-new interior and weather equipment. very good chrome with just some slight aging to the badges. excellent underside (still in paint) and very tidy engine bay.
The paintwork is not perfect – there are a few stone chips and some very slight micro-blistering but please note that this is only evident on very close inspection and does not detract from the overall appearance of the car which looks very smart in deep red paint.
A real opportunity to own a very rare Vauxhall/Holden convertible and one which is both practical. seating 4/5 people. and capable. with the later 6-cyclinder engine.
