To fill the gap between the MK2 and the MKX, Jaguar conceived the S Type. It was based on the MK2 but the rear was given similar styling to the top of the line MKX, and it was fitted with an independent rear suspension from the E Type Jaguar. This provided sports car like handling with large sedan ride characteristics. Dual fuel tanks were fitted inside each fender. The S Type was considered more of an "Executive" car than the MK2. The S Type has 4 wheel power disc brakes with inboard rear disc brakes, twin SU carburetors, Automatic transmission, and power steering.

This 1967 S Type is quite rare as only 21 left hand drive 3.4 Litre engine models are shown in the international registry as of 2014. These are in the U.S. and Australia. The entire history of this car is known starting with Its original purchase by a lady in France who ordered it to French specifications with left hand drive and the 3.4 litre engine. She returned to the U.S. living in Chicago and imported the car upon her return. Later the car was sold to her mechanic who later in 1994 sold it to Mark & Shirley Mahan. While in there care the car underwent a complete restoration and was showed around the country for many years. Under their ownership the car never failed to win a show and scored many 100 point scores in JCNA and in 2000 the speed channel did a feature on the car. The current owner purchased the car from Richard Lewis of Indianapolis and did a complete restoration of the engine compartment and the entire underside of the car to include a complete rebuild of driveline components, including the entire differential, cage, suspension bushings, shocks, brakes, a restoration of both fuel tanks, fuel lines etc. The engine and underside were restored in 2013.

Under current ownership since 2012 the car has been shown at the Hilton Head Concours where it won its class as well as at the Milwaukee Masterpiece concour where it won the saloon car class and was featured in Sports Car Market Magaziine. It was also shown at Carmel Artomobilia where it won its class again and was awarded a second place North American Championship in JCNA. While the paint and interior were done in the early 2000's they both are still capable of winning any show. This car is in excellent mechanical condition and everything on the car functions and works as it should including the original radio. The S Type was well ahead of its time and this car drives like a modern high end touring sedan. It gets a crowd wherever it is.
