MotoeXotica Classic Cars presents a rare. luxurious car great for weddings. parades or weekend drives with our showroom's latest addition: a 1979 Excalibur Phaeton.
The Excalibur is a beautiful example of a neo-classic vehicle featuring an inspired design based on the 1920's Mercedes Benz SS with a little modern engineering and American flair. The result is a very ostentatious and an unlikely city runabout but the vehicle has found itself a cult following world wide as a symbol of excess. The car was hand-built in Milwaukee. Wis.
Famous industrial designer Brook Steven's was fascinated by the classic era of automotive design. This passion was what fuelled his Gatsby-like creations and eventually lead the design of what would later become the Excalibur as a concept car. The concept car was exhibited at several car shows in the U. S. and naturally turned a lot of heads. The fuss about this unique car soon turned into orders from wealthy patrons around the world and so the Excalibur was born.
The Excalibur was factory built and underwent several major revisions in its early years which greatly improved performance and reliability especially with regards to the chassis that was required for such a long automobile — eventually acquired from General Motors. Each year the Excalibur factory only made between 60-80 vehicles which has added to their rarity and collectability today. The cars most commonly ordered and produced were the two-door roadster. However. Excalibur also made a four-door saloon: the “Phaeton. ” This model has become a very successful luxury car. used in films such as “101 Dalmatians” and as the flagship of the limo fleet for Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
After a run of only 3. 00 cars. the company finally ceased production in 1990. having finally achieved perfection in the Series V Excalibur. the most luxurious yet. The company still runs in a limited capacity supplying parts. manuals and information to the contemporary owners of Excalibur cars.
The lovely cream roadster in our showroom has been with the same loving owner since 1996 and is now waiting for its next owner. Under the hood of this Excalibur is a powerful big block 454-CID V8 engine. The transmission is automatic and shifts with ease.
The interior is saddle with minor wear from age and usage. The vents are original. and the chrome True-Spoke Excalibur wheels shine in the afternoon sunlight. A fully removable factory saddle hardtop and side curtains are included with the sale.
The VDO gauges — which include air pressure. RPM. vacuum. oil pressure. fuel. temperature and voltage — are all operable. This car comes with power steering. brakes and transmission in working order. The A/C is also functioning. An after-market Panasonic CD player and AM/FM radio is installed.
VIN is 797230. and mileage is 40. 56 — believed to be actual. This rare piece will make an excellent attraction at a wedding. formal event or a night on the town. Don't miss out on this legendary Excalibur. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
