1962 Austin A40 Mk2 for sale
Current customer rating:
The time has unfortunately come to sell my much loved Austin A 40. I purchased it 9/10 years ago from the family who bought it new in 1962. It didn't see a great deal of action until 2019 when I reconditioned it to it's current state to be used as our wedding car. I spent a lot of time and money on the car during this time repairing the small areas of rust with repair panels, replacing all of the window rubbers, rebuilding the brakes, replacing all the suspension bushes etc etc. I also painted in
it's original Snowberry White with a gloss black roof. It also has 4 new tyres. The Austin A 40 club were a brilliant source for parts and information, despite being a small club their resources are fantastic making it so much easier to get bits for A 40's. Being nearly 60 years old there are some areas of the car that aren't perfect, the vinyl interior has gone hard and faded/split in places the bodywork is ok but not perfect in places. The 948 A-series runs like a little sewing machine but isn't completely oil tight which to be honest is fairly standard. It won't be winning any shows any time soon but it is a lovely, useable classic with acres of A-series charm.
The 4 speed box has a nice action and it drives really well. It definitely needs to be viewed to be appreciated.
As well as the car itself, I have also
managed
to source some nice upgrades for it which I planned on fitting but I no longer have the time or space to do so. I have a 1275 A-series, complete with ancillaries that came out of a Marina with around 60,000 on the clock. I have taken the head and sump off of it to check the internals and it all looked ok. It hasn't been run for a while so it'll need a good check over before it's fitted. Also include are a 3 branch exhaust manifold and a separate inlet manifold. I also have a disc brake conversion from an MG Midget. I have cleaned and refreshed the kingpins and stub axles which are in good condition and I have rebuilt the calipers with new pistons and seals. I have also fitted new discs and pads so they are ready to go. There are 3 gearboxes included, a spare ribbed 4 speed box and 2 Marina 4 speed boxes that came with the engine.
As well as those parts, there are many other spares included.
Most of a 1098 A-series engine, block, cylinder head, sump, pistons, rods etc, a spare w indscreen and two rear windows plus a door glass, s pare headlights, heater hoses, various chrome bits and pieces, a front bumper, so many more useful spares. Too many to list.
Perfect winter project for someone. Feel free to ask any questions, car will be sold as seen.Located in Newton Abbot, Devon.
