1954 AUSTIN GREEN for sale
Current customer rating:
A fantastic opportunity to buy some motoring history! These are becoming rarer by the year now - (don't need to sell it but not using it at all so feeling guilty . ) on sale from the first bid.
Manufactured in 1954. began service in December 1954 (Eglington Ayrshire). De-fleeted from the Army in 1967 and into civilian registration from there (firstly with Oxfordshire County Council). I have owned the vehicle since July 2009 but quite frankly I have hardly driven it (hence this listing) - 2800 cc engine. same number of forward and reverse gears (weird but fun). Fantastic suspension when compared to the equivalent Land Rover and other competitors. Known faults (as such given the age etc) only hi or low ratio (not sure which though) but could be a really simple fix and the starter sometimes does not engage at first attempt (just re-try and it does??). Otherwise to my knowledge it starts. runs and stops as it should (as said I have hardly driven it since buying it in 2009).
I took it for an MOT in 2010 and it failed on - 1 x side light not working. OSF brake binding and flexible brake hoses worn. These jobs were done (however the side light is sometimes temperamental). It no longer needs an MOT due to the year of manufacture. I did tax (again free of charge) and insure it for use and I think the tax expires in Jan 2014. While the MOT jobs were being done we had new inner and outer tractor joint boots fitted (as these were split). I bought the same tractor joint boots for the rear (along with left/right drive shaft bearings - as these might as well be replaced when doing the tractor joints apparently) but have not even thought to try and fit them yet.
I also have a parts catalogue and a couple of owners club magazines. it's last official MOT (2009/2010) and a letter from the owners club confirming the dates manufactured and sold etc. I have got side panels which are serviceable. the hood looks like it could be an original (few small holes now but basically does the job.
So in summary it is a 1954 Austin Champ 2. 8 ltr 4 wheel drive ex military vehicle. Potential for great fun and as they haven't built any for at least 50-years they are only getting rarer (it could even be considered an investment!- a fully restored one went for 12000 pounds earlier this year on e-bay)
As mentioned I do not need to sell it so please don't waste my and your time with silly offers. I will only accept actual money for it (no wired cheques which evapourate 7-days after being banked) and I do not want to deal with a great auntie in some far distant land who will use a shipping agent (sorry to all those genuine shipping agents. great aunties and evapourating cheque makers :-). )
