1967 Pontiac Firebird #Match 400 cid 5 Spd Stock #: 639 Exterior Color: Red Interior Color: Black Body Type: Convertible Transmission: Manual 5-Speed Engine: V 8 6.6 LMileage: 113,226 1967 Pontiac Firebird (#639) Pontiac's first pony car provided sporty personal transportation for those seeking to make a more upmarket impression than the new Chevrolet Camaro offered, and when the “Firebird 400” was specified, Pontiac Motor Division's F-body became a bonafide muscle car. Order the open-air version and your grin could be even more prominently displayed when the top was down, as you put 325 horses to work on the interstate.

This 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 convertible is being listed by a friend of the owner who happens to be a dealer, but this is a private sale. The owner says, “It's a very nice driver that was previously a California car. I bought it in Wisconsin and drove it all the way back to Florida about eight years ago.” Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documents, which will be included with the sale, reveal that this example is a Firebird 400, and the cowl data plate also denotes it with the “3 F” code on the accessory line. A Ride and Handling package, power front disc brakes, power steering, and console are among the additional amenities listed. POWERTRAIN The owner states that the . V-8 is original to the car, because the engine unit number on the block matches the one listed on the “1967 Car Billing History” copy that was provided in the PHS documentation. He also says that the engine has about 20,000 miles on it since it was rebuilt by a previous owner. Its bottom-end parts are said to have been upgraded, a Holley carburetor has replaced the Rochester Quadrajet, and MSD ignition parts and an aftermarket exhaust system were installed. The owner reports, “There is no significant smoke after startup and no leaks that I know of.” The previous owner replaced the factory-installed Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic with a five-speed manual transmission to “increase the fun factor,” and the current owner says there are “no problems shifting it EXTERIOR According to the “1967 Car Billing History,” this Firebird 400 left the assembly line painted Tyrol Blue (code F), but the cowl data plate denotes code-R Regimental Red next to “PAINT” and the car is that color. It was repainted by a previous owner, and this owner discloses, “The paint is a 7 out of 10. There are spots on the rear decklid that need to be repainted.”

He continues, “The top is serviceable, but I had planned to have it replaced. There is some damage on the passenger's side of the top. I never drive in the rain, so I do not know if it leaks. The vehicle was restored before I owned it and it appears that the floorboards have been replaced. There is no rust on the car, save a spot that may be rust on the decklid. It is the size of a pinhead.” He found no issues with the glass and says that all the lighting works. INTERIOR The black Morrokide extra-cost Custom interior reveals some stitching separating on the front seats, according to the owner, and the carpet is “faded and could stand to be replaced.” The heat and aftermarket power trunk release reportedly work, but “the tach needs to be replaced — it is not accurate — and the clock doesn't work.” The owner did upgrade the sound system, but the radio, which “looks original but has modern capabilities, is not the highest quality,” he laments. CHASSIS Recent work includes a new power-steering pump and a brake job, per the seller. He also says that the bushings and shocks are good, and he has a spare set of shocks that are included with the sale. He reports there is minimal play in the steering, and the wheels are in good shape, the seller notes the tires are older and plans to replace them before delivery. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Florida title in the owner's name. Additional paperwork includes all maintenance paperwork from the previous owner, specifically the engine rebuild and transmission change, and all the PHS documentation.
