Current customer rating: (43 votes ) based onEver googed why the classic GTO was referred to as a Goat? No one really knows but here are a few “edjumicated” guesses:
1.1.) Greatest of all time
2.2.) It's a goat ‘cause it eats anything on the street.
3.3.) Gas, oil and tires.
It doesn't really matter what it means but everybody knows what car your talkin' ‘bout when u say GOAT.
The GTO is arguably the very first muscle car marketed to the public way back in '64. It was an immediate success and the car sold strong right up until the gas shortages in '72. The model ceased to exist on the A body platform after that and was really dead for all intents and purposes with the most desirable and attractive model being the 1970. It started life with a 389 and evolved into a 400 in '67 and for 1970 GM lifted the ban on cubic inches and allowed the 455 HO to be sold for the first time in the GOAT and this is what we have for your consideration today.
It is 1 of 1761 1970 455 HO 4 speed cars, fully documented with the PHS and original protect-o-plate, orig trim tag and dash vin plate. How many are actually left is debatable but its generally accepted that approx. 30% of any particular model is lost to attrition which leaves about 70% or 1200 or so left. Suffice to say you just don't see a lot of these 455 cars anymore in any condition. This white with black guts example was sold new in Fort Worth, Tx and has remained in Texas its entire life. Unfortunately the cars original owner got a lil too frisky with it and blew the engine up and it was parked in 1980 and has been off the road ever since. The toasted motor was yanked and tore down but the damage to the block was unrepairable and it sat in the backyard up until I rescued it last year.
All the hard work has already been done to this car. The body has been off the frame and both body and frame were completely media blasted top to bottom and sprayed in 2 coats of epoxy primer. I did not spend a lot of time aligning the front end sheet metal so the gaps arent final. The windshield was out for years and while the floors survived ok the dash frame did not. I changed out the dash frame with one that was in better condition so thats why the dash pad is blue. The frame has been completely restored. It was painted in 2 coats of semi gloss black enamel, all new suspension bushings and body biscuits installed. All new stainless fuel and brake lines, new rotors, new calipers and new pads. The rear brakes still need to be built out but I have all the original hardware. The original 12 bolt rear end was also blasted, primed and painted as were upper and lower control arms both front and rear. The rear end has the fully boxed lower control arms. The wheels were also blasted and restored using the correct colors and new chrome lug nuts. The tires are 235/60-14 Cooper Cobra GT radials with zero miles.
The body has practically zero rust. The only spots are 2 small holes at the bottom of each fender. The entire underside was primed and painted prior to reinstalling on the frame. It is ready for final bodywork and paint. The inner fenders have been blasted, primed and painted.
I have practically every part that came off this car and if it was still useable it is included in this listing but if you don't see it in the pix assume its not here.
Fasteners are bagged and tagged. The block is the correct 4 bolt main 9799140 casting standard bore SR replacement block and the heads are the orig “64” castings. I also have the orig 9799068 intake and orig exhaust manifolds. Also have the orig 1112012 455 HO distributor. The trans is a correct for 1970 “660” case Muncie along with the orig bell housing. I also have the shifter, 4 spd pedals, orig disc brake booster/ mstr cyl, wiper mtr, all the orig tinted glass, nice grills and both front and rear valances. The front endure nose is a replacement but is in exceptionally good condition. I also have all the AC components (except maybe a few lines) and the orig AC compressor and brackets. I think all the trim is present as well.
This is a great project if Ponchos are your passion or if your just looking for a good, desirable, investment grade classic car to park in your garage. Don't let this one get away.
