For sale is my Type 19 1985 Volkswagen Golf Carat 1.8 Automatic **Classic car magazine have called to do a feature on my car so it should be in the latest issue**Key information 1 Lady owner from new (local Suffolk car since import in 1986)The best history I have ever seen with every invoice from new including purchase invoice Restored immaculate condition Recent Service and Cambelt water pump kitMOT 29/09/2021 - New MOT to be done before sale Extremely rare genuine Type 19 Carat edition 1st year of Mk2 Golf production The Carat model was the highest spec level available only from 1985-1986 and only available in a few countries. This has made this particular model extremely rare, I have never personally seen another and if you google ‘Mk2 Golf Carat' the only images of actual cars I see is mine parked around the local Suffolk area including a few threads on forums talking about how rare it was to see (this was around 10 years ago when in regular use)Top spec model includingCarat badging Metallic paintSunroof Front + rear electric windowsElectric mirrorsMFA computer (like that found in later GTI's)Central locking Power steering 1.8 Litre carburettor engine Automatic gearboxRadio cassette Rear washerMK1/GTI style 4 horn button steering wheel Inner and outer wheel trims This is a very high spec which you never saw on early MK2 Golfs like this and was a 12 week wait special order in LA7V Polar Silver. This is a genuine 1 lady owner from new, I bought it through a friend who was a family friend of the lady who owned it from new, she was an older lady in her 70's that was struggling to use an older car at the time so had to move on. She was living in Belgium in 1985 because her husband worked for Trayenol and purchased the car there and had it exported over to England when she returned in 1986. When i bought the car just over 6 years ago i registered it in the trade as to not add another owner on to the car and I have been slowly restoring the car over the years. I have spent £1000s on the car over the years and now I believe it is ready to take to shows and enjoy, I planned to never sell the car but due to a lack of indoor storage (and focusing more on Japanese cars) its time to go. (the car will continue to be dry stored until sale). The body work I have had done on the car includes: (All new body panels are from VW heritage)Inner sillsOuter sillsBoth outer rear arch panels Both inner rear arch panelsBoth front wingsRear valance Lower Apron 90% full respray over the years I believe only the rear boot lid I have not had painted5 full wheel refurbs (includes full size spare) Black trim resprayThe car looks absolutely stunning, everything has been done to a professional standard with a high attention to detail, down to changing the wheel bolts for new items even though they are hidden by the centre caps just to finish the car off and derailing the engine bay with new bottles where possible, painted items wire tidying etc.The mechanical work I have had carried out on the car includes:Full servicing 2 cam belt water pump replacements (it was due on time) Auxiliary belts Brakes front and rear TyresExpansion tankWheel boltsBattery WipersExhaust Washer bottle New Webber carburettor 2021The car drives absolutely perfectly, it starts first time every time gets up to temperature and stays there just how it should and it feels very tight. The only thing I can think of to improve the car would be to take the car to a rolling road for a professional tune on the new carburettor but it still drives superbly as is just being picky. The interior seats had custom covers on from new which has resulted in the seats being in unbelievably clean condition with no wear marks. The floor mats had seen better days so I ordered a tan set of very high quality expensive tailor made carpet over mats to set the interior off. I have also had the headlining professionally re trimmed as it was starting to sag which is very common. The boot also had a protective cover in it which explains the mint condition. The car comes with a brand new colour coded cassette holder which has never been fitted, these fetch a lot of money when they come up for sale which is nearly never in brand new condition, new cars in Belgium also had to come with a first aid kit which is also unused and included. I also have the sealed original touch up stick from VW which is very rare to see. The history with this car is perfect it couldn't come with more, I have a date ordered A4 binder which is full of invoices, this includes the original purchase invoice from VW in 1985 Belgium VW dealer ‘Garage Mees pvba VAG Brussels. There is an invoice for every service from new including all of the first VW main dealer services which used to be hand written. Not only is there the invoices for servicing but the history includes all purchases from batteries, tyres, cam belts, suspension components and more. The majority of the servicing was at the local VW main dealer then on to a local VW specialist later in its life. I have a separate folder which has every MOT from new and includes all of the original forms in regards to importing this specific vehicle and details on general importing information and also the original vehicle registration documents before the later blue and then red styles. The original book pack is present with a fully stamped service book which is always good to see, this is alongside the other books and the cassette booklet. I have 4 keys with the car which includes 2 genuine original VW stamped ones and 2 later copies, (currently misplaced one of the keys but it will turn up in a draw) All of the locks are original so 1 key is needed for the entire car which is rare on these older VW's.As you can imagine I have spent £1000s on this car over the re sale value but obviously we all know that before undertaking a restoration like this. The car is in amazing show condition inside out. As with all cars of this age there is still room for improvements as mentioned above I would consider taking the car to a rolling road to set up the carburettor perfectly, the electric window switches are stiff for the rear, minor blister near the window wiper and that's all I can think of. The car is extremely hard to price as I have never seen another for sale. Please send me a message via eBay or on 07515259612 for any more information. Cash / Bank transfer on collection only. Not really looking for a PX but if you need to send me the information i'll see if I can help. Collection is from Ipswich Suffolk. Many extra pictures are included below but if you need anymore please let me know.£6,750
