Surrey based Panther Westwinds is a manufacturer of niche sports
cars and luxury cars. founded in 1972 by Robert Jankel. The
Panther company enjoyed success throughout the 1970s with
retro-styled cars based on the mechanical components of standard
production cars from other manufacturers. Notable examples included
1975's Panther Rio; based on the Triumph Dolomite. but appointed to
'Rolls-Royce standards'. Another. and particularly unusual. model
was the three-axled Panther 6. The Panther Lima was a roadster of
the 1970s and early 80s. It used Vauxhall Viva and Magnum
mechanicals. including that car's 2. 3 litre engine. A later Mark II
model used a purpose-built chassis. The body was built of
fibreglass in a roadster style reminiscent of an Allard or Morgan.
The Lima was produced in volume. with hundreds constructed. It was
replaced by the Panther Kallista for the 1980s. The Turbo Lima was
fitted with 14-inch alloy wheels. and had a Turbo graphic on the
bonnet. Production lasted from 1976 through 1982 with 897 cars
produced.

This Panther Lima was kept in a Vauxhall dealer's showroom for
the first five years of its life. remaining unregistered until
1986. Fitted with the standard 2. 3 litre Vauxhall engine and
running gear it also has a pair of Weber carburettors. automatic
gearbox and chrome wire wheels. The bodywork is finished in red and
the seats have recently been re-trimmed in black and red leather.
This Panther Lima is supplied with a full tonneau cover and a hood
frame and has just had a full service. a new battery and fuel pump
fitted. The heavy duty steel chassis has been fully wax oiled and
as most of the body panels are GRP there are no rust worries;
although the doors are the same as an MG Midget and are steel. Also
supplied with a V5C registration document. an MoT test certificate
which expires in May 2014 and a file containing old MoT test
certificates and some bills. This car is great fun to drive and is
sure to attract lots of attention! Price Guide: £4. 00-£5. 00
