1993 A124 W124 320CE Sportline Cabriolet Automatic pre-facelift for sale
Current customer rating:
I have owned this car since 2018 and in those three years have brought it up to a point where I feel it is now one the better examples around.
It is a pre-facelift genuine Sportline version first registered in May 1993, since when it has covered 152,XXX miles by a total of 5 owners, although the condition belies the mileage. It has the straight six 3,199 cc engine (104.992) and a five speed automatic gearbox.
The bodywork is in outstanding condition, having been machine polished, and is painted metallic Malachite Green (249). It has had a good quality respray at some time in the past, possibly because the front wings have been replaced at some time. Like almost any car, rust can take a hold, but this car has escaped largely unaffected. By that I mean the jacking points, front wings, rear wheel arches, battery tray and the offside inner wing under the washer bottle are all fine. However, the rear inner wheel wells did suffer from rust around the blanking grommets, which I have found is a common Mercedes-Benz issue. The rust has been cut out and new metal welded in.
The original electric hood, which still works as intended, is in good condition, with only slight wear marks at the folding points. The headlining is very clean, although there is a small repair.
The correct Sportline 8 hole alloy wheels are in excellent condition, as are the matching Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres with at least 6 mm of tread left. The spare wheel is in similar condition, again with plenty of tread on the Continental tyre.
The mushroom (265) leather interior is in beautiful condition. The front seats are electrically adjusted, heated and with memory. Genuine Mercedes-Benz overmats are fitted, together with a genuine draught deflector. Unfortunately the original stereo was faulty, so I have replaced it with modern, but period looking, Continental tuner with bluetooth, USB and AUX inputs. I still have the original Blaupunkt Frankfurt RCM 82 stereo and Blaupunkt CD changer, which could possibly be repaired.
The remote central locking still works and the original handbooks, 3 keys, tool kit and first aid kit are all still present.
The service history goes up to 2014 (21 years). When I bought the car in 2018 I replaced the gearbox fluid and filter, auxiliary drive belt, spark plugs, air filter, engine oil and filter (twice), injector seals, power steering fluid and filter and differential oil. I have also replaced the infamous engine wiring loom and had the throttle body rewired. A new genuine M-B battery was fitted in 2019.
I have completely overhauled the braking system, which included new discs, pads, flexible hoses (braided), replacement rear pipes and fresh brake fluid. I rebuilt the rear calipers following the Mo T tester's comments in 2020.
The rear shock absorbers have been replaced with the correct type for the Sportline version.
There are many other parts I have replaced that I have not mentioned, all with the sole objective of making sure that everything works as it should, reliably.
I do have a barely used Stormshield Plus fitted outdoor cover by Specialised Covers which is available by separate negotiation, if required.
There is a folder full of receipts, details of the work carried out and all Mo T certificates since 1999.
I also have over 40 photographs, so please ask if you are interested to see them.
The current Mo T expires in March 2022.
My insurance doesn't cover any driver, but I'm happy to take you for a test drive.
I am open to reasonable offers.
