Classic VW Beetle 1971 Tax/Mot Exempt 1641 twin carb for sale
Current customer rating:
1971 VW Beetle Ive owned this car for around 6 years and it has been dry stored for the last 2 years while not being used. I have since moved house and brought it with me but i just do not have the time to finish off the few extra bits that need doing on it. Its tax and mot exempt and the insurance is around £120 for the year. It ran and drove perfectly before it was stored. The Beetle will need to be trailered away due to the engine missing and backfiring when its run. It just needs the twin carbs rebalancing as they are out of sync. Other than that the engine was running really well. Only other thing i would say that needs doing before its fully back on the road is a good check over of brakes and suspension due to it being sat for a while. But again i just dont have the time to do this anymore. I did make a start on this last year. The engine was removed and serviced with New Morris engine oil, Fuel hoses and bosh spark plugs. The valve clearances were also checked and adjusted including new rocker cover gaskets. A new crankshaft oil seal and flywheel o ring were fitted. While the engine was out i also changed the gearbox oil for Castrol classic ep 90 and 2 new axle gaiters. An oil temp sump plug was also fitted but not wired up yet.The engine was built by the previous owner and is a 1641 with twin carbs. Electronic ignition and flamethrower coil. MST crank and alternator pulleys with tensioner, and a MST alternator stand.Porsche fuchs wheels. 2 are genuine and 2 are replicas. Its worth checking the price of these wheels on ebay as they can go for a substantial amount.Front disk brake conversion with drilled discs Lowered adjustable front beam and after market adjustable rear spring plates.Poly bushed gearbox bushes Custom 304 stainless steel exhaust. The previous owner had told me that the exhaust cost him around £600 in total Mazda rx 8 seats. Not original but are far comfier and offer a higher level of protection because of the headrests. They are electric but havent been wired in.Dashboard has been smoothed and has 4 gauges. Battery voltage, Fuel level, Engine oil temp and rpm gauge. All work apart from the engine oil temp. I have already fitted the oil temp sump plug so a wire just need running from the rear to the gauge and it will work perfectly.Wooden Porsche steering wheel.Short shifter Radio with speakers. The speakers are in the rear and is an old fashioned suitcase with speakers in it so easy to swap out for whatever you want. There are no rear seats in the car but some can be fitted if you wanted. Rust wise the car seems solid other than some surface rust. The worst being around the front passenger headlight. There are also a few small dings on the body work but nothing major. The engine would also benefit from a good clean and possibly a respray. So in a nutshell this would be a very easy project for someone with time to finish off and make there own. I dont really want to sell the car and know i will regret it in the future but it hasn't been used in the last 3 years and I'm saving for a house so i think it would be a shame to just leave it when someone could get the same enjoyment out of it that i once had.I may have missed a few things but have tried to be as honest as i can be. Any questions please feel free to ask. Also for anyone wondering when trying to check the cars reg, for some reason it only shows up with some insurers. I dont know the reason why but ive always been able to insure it. I also have the v 5 in my name. Thanks for looking
